Candidate Mourdock apparently doesn't subscribe to the claim of another Republican Senate candidate, Todd Akins, that in cases of "legitimate rape" a woman's body had ways of dealing with an unwanted pregnancy.

Except now, apparently, when God intends it. That's Mourdock's reason for opposing abortion in the case of rape, since the pregnancy is God's will that cannot be opposed. Whereas Akins thinks if a woman gets pregnant it's because she wasn't raped at all, since rape doesn't result in pregnancy, only consenting sex can impregnate a woman, so that her free choice to be pregnant makes her ineligible for an abortion.

This is what happens when Republicans get their science and politics out of a Bible, and not even a very consistent one, either.

BTW, the Romney campaign says they don't support Mourdock's views, at the same time they're running Romney TV ads supporting his Senate bid. I guess it's not a contradiction to oppose the man's looney and ignorant views, but support his Republican vote in the US Senate.

The party that brought us "legitimate rape" and "emergency rape" now bring us
gift from God rape....that sounds about right.

This is the corner you get painted into when you don't give women any choice and you are a neanderthal idiotic man. This is why women have a choice on what to do with their bodies. If right wing nut cases could get pregnant abortion clinics would be housed in every McDonalds.

Garbage like this is why no one I know will ever vote Republican. Remember: you vote for even the most innocuous Republican, and people like this ride in on their coat tails. Why? Because the good guys will owe the whackos, will have to make appointments, etc.

Some day, I hope while I'm still alive, the GOP will dump these evil people and regain the standards it used to preach.

I am pretty sure that the Obama campaign is also supporting the campaigns of others for which they do not necessarily agree on everything. Regardless, what this U.S. Senate candidate said is really disappointing.
