I, for example, am in finance and am not fully out at work or to my clients. Frankly, it's rather stressful.

Yes, I'm too old to give a fuck, and arrange BBQ's at work...when it's too stormy to fly.

For the most part, yes. Musical Theatre lol. Most of the guys I work with are gay, and the straight ones love the gay guys.

Academia...I'm a molecular biologist and I don't refrain from being out at all. If I'm asked, I tell. If it is a problem, it isn't my concern. I'm soon to be 36 and I think physical size, age, and work environment are the foundations of that confidence.

Insiders in our line of work don't ever seem to care and outsiders tend to not get too chummy. We're seen as softies anyway in white lab coats so conservative clients from outside sort of expect a number of odd birds in the lot too.

    (21, after school art teacher)

Somewhat. A few of the kids know and some coworkers know (though my boss seems oblivious).

Meh. Most probably have an idea.

I'm a federal HR analyst. I'm out to those I want to be out to. With most of the people I work with, its unnecessary for people to know my sexuality. I don't hide it, but I don't broadcast it either. Its one part of me. Not all of me.

    Of course.
I'm 31. I work part-time at a spa/salon. Being gay in a spa/salon is like having paint on the walls-- It's always there.

I also work in an auditory physiology lab, and I assume everyone knows my orientation in there. It has no impact on research.

Clinical rotations-- What I do with my penis is the last thing on my mind.

I don't broadcast or telegraph at work, but if people figure it out and/or ask, I don't deny it, so the people who care know, and the people who don't continue to not give a damn. I just treat it like I would anything else regarding my personal life. It's personal.

Academia.... professor/administrator. Yes, I'm out because it's just too much effort to hide, even in an ultra-conservative state like mine.

Yes, old, big firm lawyer. Being out in much of corporate America has tilted towards becoming more of an advantage than a disadvantage, what with the focus on diversity.

100% out, 33, architect on an Estate agency. Been openly gay on my workplace is a non-issue. However, been (obvious) gay and in the hidding is the same a painting a joke target on your back.

Yes. I'm 33 and work in IT in a manufacturing environment. It is part of who I am. I don't broadcast it but I don't hide it either and I'm sure just about everyone knows. I've never had a problem with it. There really is no shortage of gays or lesbians working here.

No, I'm not out at work. I'm out OF work.

Does this mean I should tell the guy who writes my unemployment checks that I'm gay?

    Sheesh!

I'm 41, I work in IT Project Management, and I am as out as anyone else I work with. I've been in a relationship now for 9 years and he is a huge part of my life. He attends social work functions as my partner and I also have a photo of us on my desk.

Once I came out to my parents I decided the rest of the world could kiss my ass if they had a problem with it.
