On Monday, September 15, 2008 at 10PM, LOGO will debut Shirts & Skins, a reality show featuring a gay basketball team.

"Shirts & Skins" follows the true-life story of the San Francisco Rockdogs, a young all-star basketball team who must reunite to uphold their city's three-generation legacy of international gay games gold medal, and national tournament wins. After their last gold in 2006, the team fell apart, only to be rallied back together by their founders to defend their title at the upcoming National Gay Basketball Championship in Chicago. When the Rockdogs join together as family, they win. So will this new generation of talented players be able to put aside their interpersonal differences, love lives, and late night rumbles in time to get their game on and bring home the championship?

The entire first episode of the show is available now at:

I don't watch LOGO 'cause all they seem to have are shows catered to Lesbian's, which is cool, however last time I checked I'm not a Lesbian!!! However this I may check out!

I feel the same way. Watching Logo, you'd think that lesbians are 80% of the GLBT world.

And that annoying ball that bounces around the screen to announce which channel you're on WHILE you're watching a program? Logo needs to lose it. It blocks content. Not a good media decision.

And if the show/movie is of interest, they have probably edited it down to be blander than movies shown on airplanes or in retirement homes.

Seriously -- in some effort to not offend anyone (gay content obviously being offensive enough), they censor words and scenes in their movies that would be perfectly OK on CBS/NBC/ABC during primetime. In fact, I've seen the same movie on Bravo and on Logo and the Bravo one was substantially less censored and bleeped -- and Bravo is on nearly all cable systems.

I can't tell if this is some deeply misguided attempt to save our delicate sensibilities ("we as a community want bland mush -- network TV is tooo spicy") or some craven way that management tries to keep their head "below the radar" (again, assuming that anything even the slightest bit edgy would be getting too uppity -- just being gay is pushing it!). Either way, I find it pretty condescending.

I've gone from welcoming Logo when it first appeared to really finding myself getting offended by it's general pandering attitude.

From what I understand. Here!TV, while carried on just a few cable systems, is much more upfront (sometimes bordering on softcore porn -- there must be something in the middle).

All that said, I'll probably watch it because 1) it seems potentially interesting, 2) seems less contrived than most "gay" oriented reality shows and 3) well, the guys look hot and I want to support guy oriented shows.

P.S. I do wish they would bring back Rick & Steve -- that was funny and occasionally even edgy!

if this show is produced by LOGO its probably going to be like a big bowl of milk toast...not to mention the description is about as maudlin as you can get when describing a basketball team.

but I might check it out just to see what "late night rumbles" is all about...though if it stays true to LOGO programming, it probably just refers to a really bad case of the "hungries."

wouldn't this simply end up being a soap opera or a porn flick? wait, aren't those two genres nearly synonymous already?

I don't know...I watched an episode but it doesn't really seem like "reality". It seems fake and overly dramatic... icon_confused.gif
