I just came across this you tube video , of her being a well gay diva on a Broadway show in the seventies.

I wonder if the actress herself is regarded as one in actuality.

She certainly is a movie icon but how many drags emulate her

Why does the gay icon have to be a drag queen? Why can't it be an "average" guy?

She was in Applause, a musical version of All About Eve; and Woman of the Year (which I saw on Broadway). I believe she won a Tony for both performances?

Remember that lyric from Evita: I'm their savior, that's what they call me, so Lauren Bacall me, . . .

I don't remember if she has ever made a comment on her name being in that lyric.

    Certainly a glamorous lady!

Well I merely mentioned that because they are forefront in representing the divas.

Although I haven't seen a drag queen Kylie yet.

fyi, Kylie is the only icon I consider for my own icon_biggrin.gif

Totally a gay icon. She was a strong female character in a lot of her roles plus she has a slightly masculine edge to her beauty.

Also any actress name checked in Vogue is pretty much a gay icon icon_biggrin.gif

Yup, she was definitely in the mix when talking about Hollywood icons in the 70's and 80's.

She has the most homoerotic line caught on film: "U know how to whistle don't u?! Just pucker ur lips & blow....." A strong personality, she dines alone in restaurants with a good book! Def a gay icon icon_smile.gif

My favorite of all her films. This is a great one.........filmed in and around San Francisco. It has become a classic. If you're a San Franciscan, you know the locations and buildings in this film - - - - like you do with Vertigo.

    Love her!
Aristoshark saidShe was in some of the best Humphrey Bogart movies. At age 19, she co-starred with him in "to Have and Have Not" and then married him. She was also in "Key Largo" and a bunch of others. Cool, smart, sassy (and Jewish!)---she is one of the last of the old Hollywood legends.

Yeah, The Big Sleep is such a good movie. Bogart and Bacall were such a great pair onscreen.
(Bogart had some other great movies with other strong leading ladies-- Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen.)
