Worth Pursuing?

Alright so this past Tuesday I was doing work with a few friends at a student housing building because my place didn't have power. A guy walks by, totally my type, and one of my friends knew him in passing. So my friend and him talk for a a minute then he looks right at me and starts talking to me; completely ignoring my friend. We talked about our majors, goals, and even talked about my surgery. He was shocked and asked a lot of questions about it. Turns out...he used to be chubby then went through an anorexic phase, like me, and changed that when he started track in high school. He said he hasn't met anyone that can relate to him.

He then asks me if I had gotten more 'partners' since I've lost the weight and started telling me about the gay club he went to. Throughout the conversation I was getting the vibe he was really into me with the way he was looking at me and his tone of voice was really flirty. We talked for over an hour and as I was about to leave I took out my phone about to say we should hang out but he looked at my phone and immediately said bye before going back to his room.

I went back to the building today to do work and this girl that my friend knows said she has talked to the guy before... she asked if he was gay and he told her he is straight and saving himself for marriage...

So...not sure what to do here. He seemed really into me but I didn't get the chance to get his number...and what that girl said really bugged me.

This guy worth pursuing or should I give up on it?

Awww.. c'mon.. whats the worst that could happen?

You may get a friend, you may even get more if you do pursue it.

You'll only regret it if you do nothing.

As long as you're pursuing a friendship, I say you're fine. If you go after him hoping that he's secretly gay, you're probably going to make him uncomfortable so it'll make even a friendship difficult.

I'd say, go ahead and be friendly but respectful of where he is with his sexuality (either gay or straight).

He may have told the girl he was saving it for marriage to put the girl off track.

If the guy is friendly and attracive, why not be friends. Sex isn't the only reason to get to know people.

Try to be friends and see where it goes from there. He's probably gay but still in the closet so I don't know if a relationship is the best idea (unless he comes out)

Have you considered asking him if he's gay?

As another pointed out, he may have just told her that for reasons x,y,z.

Disclosure and transparency would put this into better perspective for you.
