Thanks for posting this. Not only is it an important subject politically, culturally, and socially but it's also a nice reprieve from all the left/right bullshit on here.

I hope but doubt seriously that this will happen, for the same reason that D.C. has never gained voting representation in Congress. Republicans worry that it would provide too consistent of a Democratic vote. (Sorry to take the thread back to the "left/right bullshit," but it is what it is.)

It's all good man. But in the end, when all the factors are taken into consideration, this issue is another left/right thing that belongs in the hands of Puerto Ricans and not the GOP.

I think it would be very wrong and that they should be given independence.
They are a separate people with their own identity and language, albeit with old ties to the US. We should not interfere with their national aspirations, to be accused later of destroying their culture.

Although it's very interesting to read that more Puerto Ricans live in the mainland US than on the island.

I don't see it happening any time soon.
What would be the compelling reasons for the United States to want to add Puerto Rico as a state ?

clearly the application for statehood should be entirely based on the hotness of the petitioning country's male citizenry.

    could we trade indiana
