hello- i'm researching dog breeds, and like what i read about the hovawart. do you have one, or have experience with one? being single, i'm looking for an intelligent, loyal, good natured dog, who will keep the homestead safe while i'm at work.

You might enjoy this very short video. You've got lots and lots of options. And do consider rescuing an adult dog. Better suited for a life that requires a longer period of time without you at home each day. Thanks for taking the care to ask, research, ensure a life-long happy and healthy home for your new companion.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidYou referring to this breed?

yes, this is a hovawart. a rare breed in the U.S. originally from germany. from my readings, a very intelligent, loyal dog, very healthy breed, does not stray from its territory, very protective, bonds closely to its owner, good with kids. used in europe as watchdogs, and avalanche rescue dogs. they are on record as having let small children climb on their backs and the dog carrying them to safety. colors are as shown, black and tan, all black, and blond.

i am hoping to find someone who has one, so i can learn beyond reading about the breed, first hand.
