My suggestion, for food, avoid junk food, and soda all together. If you don't eat them as often eventually, you won't even want them. Portion control your food and try to eat a variety of foods eat day (meats, carbs, veggies, etc.) Look online for the best vegies and balanced meals.
For working out, start with definitely start with pushups and squats. Running is good too. It all depends on your preferable style of exercise and what you have access to.
