Huge age gap on Real Jock

And not just Real Jock.. but all other sites I have been on, like Grindr.. and even IRL.

most people here are either very young (19, 20) or 40- 55+.
As a 29 year old, going on 30, I am finding it very hard to meet people my age! Even when I go out to coffee shops, or bars, I see the same thing. I continually get hit on by the very young, or the middle aged and older crowds.

Is late 20's, early 30's an abyss in the gay world? I have kind of been wondering around the past few years, trying to find my place, moving to different cities, and the feeling of isolation really sucks. It doesn't help that I don't like the current place I live and want to move to Southern California next year.
I think it all started after I graduated college, and one by one, all my friends starting moving away. The phone stopped ringing so much. There were no more social plans.
    Damn, this sucks!

I would say you're over generalizing, except I have personally NEVER gone out with anyone in their 30's or late 20's. Interesting.

Where about in California are you living? Generally the late twenty's and early thirties live within the metropolitan area. If you live in the suburbs then chances are you will be encountering an age gap.
    Just a theory though. *shrugs*

Maybe you should come to Toronto. I'm twenty nine and I've met plenty of guys who revolve around my age.

I am in Sacramento right now icon_confused.gif Not a very metro. area. I want to move to LA next year. I do have good friends down there that could help me branch out. I don't know anybody here.

Well I hate to say it, but the reason why you said none of your friends are around is probably a big part of it. People in their 30's and 40's are at a stage in their lives where they have gotten settled and stay in the same stage in their lives for a few years. It is also a very busy time when their working and many are dealing with kids. Then in their 50's you start seeing the kids from the 20 year old parents getting more independent and parents getting more time and freedom. You will also start seeing things like more divorces and separations. There are a lot more things that could play into it that than I have mentioned. I think of it a lot like waves. There are all kinds and they move at different speeds and different forces, but you can generally see a trend or a pattern that can be projected across the spectrum.

You me be right - at least for RJ.
Originally, I thought your perception was quite off the mark as applied to RJ , because I read a lot of posts by guys in their thirty's. I did the numbers search, and it reveals that there are 12,135 RJ members aged 18-28 in California; only 2240 California RJ members aged 29
-39: but 4305 California RJ members aged 40-49; 2019 California RJ members aged 50-70.

I don't know anything about Grindr , but I do know something about IRL in San Francisco. I think Lanter is right - lots of guys in their thirty's are busy living their lives, and lots of them are partnered up. (Probably most of the single guys who were in their thirty's or forty's in the eighty's and ninety's died in the plague.) You will probably find a lot more available guys in LA then there are in Sacramento. The most likely places to meet them, IRL, would be at sports clubs and other organizations.

I lived in SF between the ages of 18 to 29. Yeah I had my fun.. but never created any long lasted intimate relationships. I don't think the guys there are really my type anyway. I love Southern California, even though I'm a native NorCal'r, and definitely think that I will attract more down there. Thanks for the hope ;)

Well it may get cold here but that's where a mans body heat comes into play icon_wink.gif

Why don't you see if there any opportunities for job down south. That way you'll have a better reason to shift.

I feel like the OP sometimes but I just take it for what it is now. If guys who hit on me that I'm not interested, I'll politely say no or just date them at first (no matter the age), have fun and move on! lol, I don't try to meet guys at bars or clubs so much anymore! Just leave it happen naturally. As far as friends go, urg, whatever just keep in touch with the ones you like, I have many acquaintances and a few close friends, I'm fine with that! Move to SoCal buddy, You'll like it here!

it is true on every site i have been on (canada too). There is a huge dip in the 30s age group. They are mostly in ltr and not looking, or working and dont have time. They are also a very fearful group for sti's so they are shy. There was a big advertising push during their childhoods that did a number on them.

It means a lot of 40 year old guys are sleeping with college kids (yay ... of course college kids are terrible at sex, but they can be pretty.)

This is actually interesting, and I can confirm it from my circle of friends. Most of the guys in their 30s are already committed, while most of the young early 20s folks are single. The same goes for 40+ I know are single.
