    Maybe
they should have stopped at 9 . Number 10, Bangkok, says no PDA's ( unless you are straight, of course) . OTOH, you can rent children for sex there . Maybe the place should be described as "tolerant".

So 9 and 10 have bars and hookers, but don't kiss or hold hands in public. There are gay-friendlier places to visit, then.

so, according to the article those gay friendly places are only friendly during carnival and gay prides, of course, they want money so they let gay people be gay as long as they spend a lot of money.

At least i know that is exactly like that in Brazil, gay only have freedom during carnival and gay parades, cause there goes a lot of tourist with a lot of money to spend.

Yeah BOO lonely planet, let's add some more to the list. (Fixed)

    In No particular order.

    . Toronto / Montreal (Canada)
    . Greece/Mykonos
    . Cape Town South Africa
. Los Angeles / West Hollywood / Laguna Beach (Southern Cal)
. San Diego / Hillcrest CA
    . Palm Springs CA
    . Barcelona / Madrid (Espana)
    . Paris / Marais - France
    . London UK
    . Roma (Italia) (Coliseum area)
. Miami/South Beach? FL (heard that it's pretty gay there but haven't been).
    . Chicago IL
. Vietnam (Saigon/Southern) (I'm putting it down because they're considering gay marriages there).

Any other ones you guys can think of?

This. Although, if it's written by Lonely Planet, they were probably looking at these places just as vacation destinations. I've lived in Rio, and it undoubtedly has a large gay scene, but a fair amount of it is on the DL, and outside of the southern neighborhoods (Copa, Ipa, etc.), except for Lapa, there's just about nothing gay, or even the most remotely gay friendly.

I'm extremely surprised that no Spanish city made that list, since the whole country is practically gay. ;-)

exactly, you are free to be gay in Rio as long you stay at the gay ghetos.

Uh well, Stockholm doesn't have as much "gay life" as many of those other destinations, but if we're talking about gay-friendly in terms of tolerance I think Sweden should be on that list.

I can understand wanting to vacation in a gay friendly place, as in you wouldn't be thrown into jail for being gay. But, the last thing I have in mind when planning my vacation is hanging out in gay bars. The gay ghetto is also a state of mind.

Lonely Planet was likely financially motivated to pick these destinations.
