Interestingly, I've never taken an IQ test. So, not sure whether I'll want to agree or disagree with this article.

I agree that intelligence cannot be measured by IQ tests, since it has a great many components that are not covered in a standardized test.

At the same time, I do think that the Flynn effect shows a true increase in intelligence. I believe the average adult in 2012 is indeed more intelligent than the average adult in 1982, and I see the average person of today handling tasks that the average person thirty years ago would have had a hard time dealing with.

I've worked around people with a "genius" (145+) IQ score for several years. They definitely pick up on new things quite a bit faster than I do; but outsmarting them on normal everyday stuff is quite easy.

So yeah, I think there's some validity to that report.

my exbf had IQ of 160 and he was very practical and enough social person, I think it depends on other factors if a person is "real world smart"

One can improve its own intelligence; scientists have known this for centuries,
so I really don't see where you are coming from.

I didn't get that (IQ doesn't measure intelligence) from the article. It just said that the Flynn Effect is impacting scores and people today are better standardized "testers" today. It still measures intelligence.

But from my understanding and research, IQ is a static number. So it does not change, or get better, over time. You have what you have, so to speak.

There is a whole other dimension of intelligence that is not about how smart you are (abstractly), but about how you are able to go beyond "book" smarts to "street" smarts. The latter is all about EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. And EI is something that can be developed and learned over time. EI, unlike IQ, is also a much stronger predictor of how successful you are "in real life" because it measures components that relate to problem solving, communicating, handling stress, flexibility, emotional maturity, etc.

In other words, most of us have a basic IQ level enough to function, but it's our EQ score that really measures how well we get on in the world.

really gonna try and hold onto that idea that your intelligent aren't ya.

No, I took the Wechsler test as an adult and have done the Ravens test too as a kid in school and got higher then everyone in the school at the time.

The thing is, those tests are all bullshit.

If you can remember random information about bullshit that have no real use in day to day living then you'll get a high score. Throw in some pattern recognition and some reasoning skills and taking your time and keeping calm and your going to get a high score

I said it then when the teacher dragged me up in front of everyone at school and gave me a certificate and I called bullshit on it as an adult.

It's all a load of crap.

Of course you do dear of course you do and I'm soooo dumb I'd fall for that bullshit.

I liked school, it was useful. I was particularly partial to philosophy, science and art. But I think that's cause I had teachers that weren't idiots.

I am inherently skeptical of anything that attempts to create an indicator that others can use to divide people.

You see if everywhere. Teachers expect you to perform different to everyone else. Others expect you to behave in a certain way. People have this bullshit idea that because you have a high IQ your to good for them.

Then you have the people with a high IQ. WOW a lot of them are just down right douche bags because of it (with the exceptions of course) who think they are better then others because they got a high number. Hell I can't begin to even count high enough how many people with IQ's higher then mine have attempted to look down on me because of it hahaha

No, intelligence will present it;s self in due course within areas a person is interested in. Time and time again history has shown that those who truly excel rely not upon natural intellect but consistently work harder, who push themselves, who will not rest back on a number and instead dedicate them selves to what they have chosen to follow.

    IQ number be damned!

and don't forget also about the ones who create a brand new idea for the masses to follow, for those are the ones who also go down in history.

But in the end it all comes down to survival, and ego, the ones who have hight numbers and think of themselves as above the rest only demonstrate to the truly intelligent how primitive and unoriginal are they truly are for following to the trap of such a simple illusion. But i guess you seem to me that you are smarter then u think, maybe those numbers u got are not so bullshit after allicon_wink.gif
