Hey guys, anyone out there use a hair iron?

I've known a guy in the past who used a hair iron every morning for relatively short hair, and I don't know why he used it, cause it didn't seem to make much of a difference, but he swore it worked.

Now I don't really understand what it does? Just burns the hair? I have very thick hair already, but its not as dense, so I can often see the whiteness of my scalp if I look carefully (again, being anal), and hoped that maybe this will cure it, by giving me a more dense look?

    Any suggestions?

it just straightens hair...that's it...it does the same thing a blow dryer will do except in a shorter time frame...

the biggest mistake [I am dating a stylist - so here is FREE advice] is to put hair product in wet hair...drying your hair first and then applying the product eliminates the ability to see through to your scalp...[for most of us with hair]...

I put two different types of product in my hair when I have a messy do...a volumizing mouse which I blow dry into my hair and then a paste which gives my hair it's shape...

I used a flat iron for about a year, but that was so I could have a mohawk (I have naturally curly hair). The only thing an iron does is shape your hair, either curling it or straightening it. It doesn't "burn" your hair, unless you hold it there for too long, in which case you're an idiot (generalized "you" not a personal "you").

Dfrourke is quite right about the incorrect use of product. My mom, being a stylist, learned me good years ago that you should avoid using product on wet hair most of the time. You might also think about what types of product you're using and how you're styling it. If you want to avoid the white scalp thing, you're better off going with a slightly messier look, as the hair will tend to not create symmetrical patterns that show the scalp.

My ex-bf used an iron, but it didn't make a noticeable change. And it might damage your hair. I wouldn't use it on your hair, you hair looks cute already... and so do you icon_redface.gif

I use a hair iron on my relatively short hair because it's extremely curly and I prefer variety in my look from time to time... Otherwise, I guess it makes some men's hair more shiny?

I actually just bought and used a flat iron and I really like the outcome. My hair is particular and does its own wave thing (which you can see in my profile picture actually) so this really helped tame the front so that I could get the style I want/like!
