Opinions on calluses

I have some substantial calluses on my hands from weightlifting due to my aversion towards wearing gloves. I used to use them, but now I prefer going bare hand or using chalk when needed. I do occasionally tend to them by using nail clippers and a file to keep them in check, but only to an extent that's sufficient to keep them from ripping off. They're still very apparent and noticeable when I shake hands.

I personally don't mind them and actually kind of like the roughness of my hands...but I've had some of my female coworkers and gay male friends comment on how they find it gross. What's your opinion on it? Do you like the masculine aspect of callused hands or do you find it crude and unrefined?

lol, back in the 70s a girl was hitting on me at a diner. She was gushing over my manliness, lol, and grabbed my hand saying,

"Ohhhhh callouses..*dreamy look*..is that from all the outdoor work?"

I grinned and said, " No, from living alone." then gave her a sad puppy look.

    That ended that attempt. icon_lol.gif

Oddly enough, I think it's kind of hot on a guy's hands, but I get grossed out by calluses on their feet. Your feet shouldn't remind me of the elephant exhibit at the zoo.

I wear gloves, because I've torn off calluses before. Helped a lot, actually.

I don't mind calluses though. I don't get all googly eyed over them, but they don't bug me either.

Yeah, I've got pretty substantial calluses too. They're just a fact of life if you're lifting a lot. I do my best to file them down and keep them flat so they don't tear.

If someone didn't like me because of them, we're probably not going to get along on other levels so I don't worry about it.

Be proud of them. They're a result of your hard input. Don't let them down and let them be a reminder.

Plus, gloves slip when you're lifting. Skin doesn't.

Hmm depends. Can be a bit painful on the old shaft when getting a handjob but hardly a deal breaker.

Seems like there's a general consensus that calluses are favored...though since this is a fitness site, I think we may be a little biased lol.

I think the girls and gay male friends who find my calluses gross aren't aware of all the hard work that they represent and are just used to their delicate baby soft hands, which now that I think about it, I would never want. A callused hand and firm handshake say a lot.

I would never judge anyone on calluses. It doesn't really add any sex appeal or take away from me. It can mean many different things.

I do a lot of climbing until my hands end up bleeding. Still, only the top of my hands will callus but the rest of my hands are smooth as a babies bottom! I just don't understand it haha!

calluses are normal for any active guy.
they're fine as long as you don't try to peel them off because then they become really annoying when you j/o .

I prefer not to accelerate the aging and skin turn over of my hands. Yall can enjoy your shortening of telomeres faster for your "manliness." Everytime a cell dies, a cell has to divide to replace it. Everytime a cell divides, the telomeres of your DNA get shorter, representing aging. I wear lifting gloves and can lift more than anyone in this thread.

Yeah it means you're doing something right. I tried gloves for a while and still got calluses, so I don't think that will really help.. I found that using moisturizer on your hands will keep the calluses from getting rock hard and weird. And I developed a habit of peeling them off whenever I'm sitting around and bored lol

I love calluses, I get them from my WOD's, and other most other sports, especially those in salt water. I would rather shake a big hand than a limp shake with skin that is too smooth ew

I have them on both hands. I file/sand them down a bit. I kinda think its sexy when a guy has calluses on his hands.
