Do you hate "political" threads? Are you sick of hearing jingoism replace debate? Are you sick of people plagiarising lies and calling it argument? Are you sick of what is mislabelled politics but is actually rhetoric of the grade school variety?

Then I have the thread for you! All you have to do is to pick song lyrics that best describe the party that you happen to dislike. Why pretend we're interested in what other people have to say when we can just slag them off!

So here's my take on the Republicans, courtesy of Radiohead:

    Karma police: Arrest this man!
He talks in maths. He buzzes like a fridge. He's like a detuned radio.

Karma police: Arrest this girl! Her Hitler hairdo is making me feel ill,
And we have crashed her party.

This is what you get, this is what you get
This is what you get, when you mess with us

Well, I'd prefer intelligent conversation, as it's funny to see the guys on here that think McCain can actually improve our situation. Don't take me wrong, I'm not a die-hard Democrat. However, anyone who thinks McCain hasn't sold himself out for this role, could actually help our country, and isn't just a plain idiot at this point, is NUTS. I'm an Obama supporter now, but when I was cautious and still wishing for Clinton I described it this way..."Who do you want running your country? A guy who knows well, and has experience in, screwing us over? OR, someone who hasn't figured it out yet and at least aligns closer to our social views?" Fiscally, there's no hope in recovery for at least a decade. We just have to get used to it. McCain, however, could set us up for 30 years of recovery. Make your pick, but don't complain if you choose the guy that drives even farther in the gutter.

BUT, I'll still participate in some fun:

    The Rolling Stones
    ***
    Lies
    ***
Lies, dripping off your mouth like dirt
Lies, lies in every step you walk
Lies, whispered sweetly in my ear
Lies, how do I get out of here?
Why, why you have to be so cruel?
Lies, lies, lies I ain't such a fool!
Lies, lies in my poppas looks
Lies, lies in my history books
Lies, lies like they teach in class
Lies, lies, lies I catch on way too fast
Fire, fire upon your wicked tongue
Lies, lies, lies you're trying to spoil my fun
    Lies, lies you dirty jezebel
Why, why, why, why don't you go to hell?
Why, why you think me such a fool?
Lies, lies, lies honey that's ya rules!
Lies, lies, lies, lies, oh my lies, ...

Silly Season always makes me think of that Red Ryder song...

    Lunatic fringe
    I know you're out there
    You're in hiding
    And you hold your meetings
    We can hear you coming
    We know what you're after
We're wise to you this time
We won't let you kill the laughter.

    Lunatic fringe
    In the twilight's last gleaming
    This is open season
But you won't get too far
We know you've got to blame someone
    For your own confusion
But we're on guard this time
    Against your final solution

    We can hear you coming
    (We can hear you coming)
No you're not going to win this time
    We can hear the footsteps
    (We can hear the footsteps)
    Way out along the walkway
    Lunatic fringe
    We know you're out there
But in these new dark ages
    There will still be light

    An eye for an eye;
    Well before you go under...
    Can you feel the resistance?
    Can you feel the thunder?

Against Me! - From her Lips to God's Ears

Regime change under a Bush doctrine of democratic installations.
    Constant war for constant soldiers.
What are we gonna do now?
    De-escalation, through military force.
    Increase the pressure, Oh Condoleeza
What should we do about the situation in Iran and North Korea?

    Condoleeza.

    Democratic election under Marshall law.
An Iraqi president out of control of our choices.
After all this death and destruction
Do you really think your actions advocate freedom?
The presidents giving a speech in Georgetown
To remember the voice of a slain civil rights leader,
Do you understand what the martyrs stood for?
Oh Condoleeza do you get the fucking joke?

    Condoleeza
    Condoleeza
    Condoleeza
What are we gonna do now?
    Condoleeza
    Condoleeza
    Condoleeza
What are we gonna do now?

Anything Goes - Fall 2008 Version
Lyrics by Cole Porter (updated by moi - changes in eyetalics)

    Times have changed,
And we've often rewound the clock,
Since the Puritans got a shock,
When they landed on Plymouth Rock.
    If today,
Any shock they should try to stem,
'Stead of landing on Plymouth Rock,
Plymouth Rock should land on them.

In McCain's days a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking,
    But now, God knows,
    Anything Goes.

Good authors too who once knew better words,
Now only use four letter words
    Writing prose, Anything Goes.

The world has gone mad today
    And good's bad today,
    And Obama's white today,
    And day's night today,
    When most guys today
    That homos prize today
    Are just strapping young ho's
And though I'm not a great romancer
I know that I'm bound to answer
    Whatever you propose,
    Anything goes

When grandpapa whose age is eighty
In night clubs is getting matey with his hands under Cindy's clothes,
    Anything Goes.

When soccer moms pack and leave poor Tracks
Because they decide they'd rather be right-wing flacks,
    Anything Goes.

    If shopping malls you like,
If airport toilet stalls you like,
    If old hims you like,
    If young trim you like,
If Gay marriages blessed you like
    Or me undressed you like,
    Why, nobody will oppose!
    When every night,
    The set that's smart
Is intruding in fisting orgies in studios,
    Anything Goes.

The world has gone mad today
    And good's bad today,
    And Obama's white today,
    And day's night today,
    When most guys today
    That homos prize today
    Are just strapping young ho's
And though I'm not a great romancer
I know that I'm bound to answer
    Whatever you propose,
    Anything goes

If saying your prayers you like,
    If Chinese wares you like
    If rectal-tissue tears you like,
    If back hairs you like,
    If love affairs you like
    With muscle bears you like,
    Why nobody will oppose!

And though I'm not a great romancer
And though I'm not a great romancer
I know that I'm bound to answer
    Whatever you propose,
    Anything goes...
    Anything goes!

Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up

I can't believe no one posted this yet. Not aimed at any particular party... but at all of them. icon_razz.gif

    Come on!
    Uggh!

Come on, although ya try to discredit
    Ya still never read it
    The needle, I'll thread it
    Radically poetic
Standin' with the fury that they had in '66
    And like E-Double I'm mad
Still knee-deep in the system's shit
Hoover, he was a body remover
    I'll give ya a dose
But it can never come close
To the rage built up inside of me
Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy

    Movements come and movements go
    Leaders speak, movements cease
    When their heads are flown
    'Cause all these punks
    Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
You know they went after King
When he spoke out on Vietnam
He turned the power to the have-nots
    And then came the shot

    Yeah!
    Yeah, back in this...
Wit' poetry, my mind I flex
Flip like Wilson, vocals never lackin' dat finesse
Whadda I got to, whadda I got to do to wake ya up
To shake ya up, to break the structure up
'Cause blood still flows in the gutter
    I'm like takin' photos
Mad boy kicks open the shutter
    Set the groove
Then stick and move like I was Cassius
    Rep the stutter step
Then bomb a left upon the fascists
    Yea, the several federal men
Who pulled schemes on the dream
And put it to an end
    Ya better beware
    Of retribution with mind war
20/20 visions and murals with metaphors
Networks at work, keepin' people calm
    Ya know they murdered X
And tried to blame it on Islam
He turned the power to the have-nots
    And then came the shot

    Uggh!
What was the price on his head?
What was the price on his head!

    I think I heard a shot
    I think I heard a shot
    I think I heard a shot
    I think I heard a shot
    I think I heard a shot
    I think I heard, I think I heard a shot

'He may be a real contender for this position should he
abandon his supposed obediance to white liberal doctrine
    of non-violence...and embrace black nationalism'
'Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers... and neutralize them.
Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers... and neutralize them
and neutralize them, and neutralize them, and neutralize them'

Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!
Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

How long? Not long, cause what you reap is what you sow

Great idea for a thread! Here's to the Elephants:

    We're in the money, we're in the money;
We've got a lot of what it takes to get along!
We're in the money, that sky is sunny,
Old Man Depression you are through, you done us wrong.
We never see a headline about breadlines today.
And when we see the landlord we can look that guy right in the eye
We're in the money, come on, my honey,
Let's lend it, spend it, send it rolling along!

    And here's another:

And I don't want you and I don't need you
Don't bother to resist, or I'll beat you
It's not your fault that you're always wrong
The weak ones are there to justify the strong

    (Marilyn Manson, The Beautiful People)

Yeah, why discuss the reasons we believe "No Child Left Behind" isn't a good idea when we can call the First Lady the c word?!? (I would have put a link to that odd thread, but it looks like it has been deleted. EDIT: No such luck. I found it. http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/276368/).

Here's a song for the state of American politics. As applicable today as it was 30 years ago.

    "There's battle lines being drawn
    Nobody's right if everybody's wrong"

Hmm, my thoughts on the McCain-Palin ticket...Ministry, Flashback

    I'm gonna kill him
    I'm gonna break his face
    I'm gonna crack his skull
I'm gonna kick it all in
I'm gonna break his legs off
I'm gonna rip his head off
and then shit down his neck
and then I'll laugh like a motherfucker
and then I'll laugh like a motherfucker
    cause I hate her
    and then I'll fall past
    I'm gonna flashback
    flashback

    cause I hate her

    pneumatic drill
    right through her chest
    bedroom punching
    right through the rest
    I'm gonna make her suffer
    I'm gonna make her suffer
    and then watch her die
    cause I hate her
    and then I'll fall past
    I'm gonna flashback
    flashback

    cause I hate her

    I'm gonna rip her flesh
I'm gonna piss in her face
    I'm gonna rip her open
and then hit her with mace
    I'm gonna make her suffer
    I'm gonna make her suffer
    I'm gonna make her cry
    I'm gonna watch her die
    cause I hate her
    and then I'll fall past
    I'm gonna flashback
    flashback

    I hate her
    flashback
    laugh like a motherfucker

    Just kidding, of course.

Tim, a more poetic choice than mine, but what the hell?

    Radiohead - Electioneering

I will stop, I will stop at nothing.
Say the right things when electioneering
I trust I can rely on your vote.

When I go forwards you go backwards
    and somewhere we will meet.
When I go forwards you go backwards
    and somewhere we will meet.
    Ha ha ha

    Riot shields, voodoo economics,
it's just business, cattle prods and the I.M.F.
I trust I can rely on your vote.

When I go forwards you go backwards
    and somewhere we will meet.
When I go forwards you go backwards
    and somewhere we will meet.

This song by Black Eyed Peas, covered by Alanis. Somewhat political (in the broadest sense), mostly fun, but entirely entertaining. This election season has been very entertaining, so I give you this.

"You don't want no drama, no no no more drama."

African Reggae (Nina Hagen). English lyrics courtesy of the Nina Hagen Electronic Shrine (http://www.totalobscurity.com/nina/).

It smells so fine, watch out you don't get busted.
'Cause they're after you, you old kiffer you.
So what if their world is going to pot from alcoholism
It's you they're hunting down, YOU.

    Hashish . . .
    finest kashmir
    exquisite Turkish, Afghan grass,
    A cookie for my snookie,
    cannabis in Holland,
    Bob Marley on Venus.

    Alptraum (Nina Hagen). Same source.

    But I, I, I, I, I
    I am your nightmare
I come, I come at the break of dawn to give you a withering look
I'm after you and you won't escape me,
by night I turn you into an assassin, a traitor
I drive the sweat from your smooth brow deep down into your brain.
