Parents have every right to be stupid, my guess is, they are just upset that someone clued their daughter in on the fact that their stupid thinking is not the only view available. This happens all the time to kids raised by religious whack jobs. Of course a grounded, educated and healthy teacher might have contributed to a young student coming to terms with their sexuality, so what? That should be something a good teacher could do. Only in our stupid society where even the most backwards and idiotic parents can claim to be the better role models would this even be an issue.

Sounds like the teacher did the exact right thing and that the district did the exact wrong thing, though probably it was just covering its ass.

This type of behavior crept into corporate think alongside all the downsizing and so-called re-engineering of corportate structures whereby you no longer had to do the best you can do but just do what I call crap-plus-1, only "striving" to slightly better the competition instead of blowing them out of the water; and, of course, no longer assuming responsibility for your own actions but laying everything on someone else, so that instead of getting acknowledgment for accomplishments you're not creative enough to manifest, you point fingers of blame at others to distract from your own incompetence.

So this might have been more that than this. God forbid your boss should support you when they know you are right.

It makes work quite the pleasure. Idiots.

Most surprising about this affair is it takes place within the Broward County School District which I believe was the first in the country to draw up & enact a resolution honoring LGBT History Month.

Apparently we still have a few pages of work left to accomplish on our agenda.

I was talking to one of my teacher friends just yesterday about some of the challenges in our careers. If you talk to most teachers I can almost guarentee that they will say parents are their greatest challenge (if not administration).

Anymore, teachers have the unfortunate responsibilty of parenting their students. Our youth are not being taught the necessary things in the home to be successful students. They come to school and are often looking for refuge from their parents. It is a sad state of our society but parents need to realize HOW to build a healthy relationship with their children. The parents in this story would not have been upset if they had built a home with openness and honesty and had any decent relationship with their daughter.

It actually sounds like things are getting better. When I was in school, there were a couple of incidents in which teachers were fired for less than that. No hearings, no appeals. They were just gone the next day. One that I recall was a teacher, in response to a question about some mysterious matter of girl physiology, loaned one of her college health textbooks to a girl for a weekend. The parents discovered the "dirty book" and the teacher was gone by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, we had a couple of utter imbeciles teaching at the high school, solely because they were members of the principal's church. To all appearances, one of them was functionally illiterate, but he had to teach something besides "coach." Unfortunately, that former principal is still leading the school board. Jeez, he must be like 80 or 90 now.

The article says: "The student was reportedly barraged with incendiary messages from her stepfather on her Twitter feed after he discovered the girl's orientation, reported the Broward Sun Sentinel.

Hibbs said she reported the stepfather's messages as child abuse and cyber-bullying."

So to be real here, the parents' action against the teacher was nothing but vindictive retribution for calling them out on their child abuse, when the teacher had no choice but to take such action because...

    http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=0000-0099/0039/Sections/0039.201.html says...

"Any person who knows, or has reasonable cause to suspect, that a child is abused, abandoned, or neglected by a parent, legal custodian, caregiver, or other person responsible for the child’s welfare, as defined in this chapter, or that a child is in need of supervision and care and has no parent, legal custodian, or responsible adult relative immediately known and available to provide supervision and care shall report such knowledge or suspicion to the department..."

    & because

    http://www.leg.state.fl.us/statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&Search_String=&URL=1000-1099/1006/Sections/1006.147.html says...

"Bullying or harassment of any student or employee of a public K-12 educational institution is prohibited"

So this teacher should have been commended. Her reputation should not have been commandeered. I hope she wins her lawsuit.

I was considering teaching as a third career but was talked out of it by almost everyone I know in teaching from my cousin and her partner, both long-time teachers, and by a friend's cousin who is a vice principal, even he saying that administration has become a complete pain in the ass to teachers. If I go into schoolwork at all as my next & probably last career I think it might be in guidance or social work instead.

The stupidity is humorous. I was just seating there laughing my head of. How dumb can you be? Americans realize how bad this made your judicial system look. When an innocent person can be sued to court for a crime that does not exist, that's the most dumbest thing I have ever heard.

If it weren't for straight people, we wouldn't be here.

If they want to get rid of us, they have to get rid of themselves.
