There is a proliferation of these threads for what reasons I find hard to understand. I like to believe these usless and banal threads are purely for entertainment, but given the number of repeat respondants, its seems that most respondants are trying to repair or reinforce their severely damaged egos. I have counted individuals with HUNDREDS of repeat responses to threads like:

    1-10
    1-20
    1-50
1-100 (really ... ? what the hell guys)
    fuck or pass
would you tap that ass ( lol just lol)
    friends fuck or date
    submissive or dominant
    top or bottom
    pitcher or catcher
    rate yourself (real ego booster)

ect ect the list goes on and on and on...

Yes, I'm guilty too for joining initially in a few of these threads but my attention was quickly lost. I really cannot grasp what draws people back to these threads. It seems the case when someone is neagatively rated, they go on full fledge attack mode bashing their negative critics. So whats the deal boys? I simply don't get these threads. Must the endless ego stroking persist? lol

I think its a little bit of an ego boost, as well as entertainment. we're all online, and it just gets us to be more social with each other. Its probably more of a social kind of thing. This site is what you make of it.

    VALIDATE ME

I guess they're harmless fun, or should be anyway. I dunno if anyone take them too seriously or they use them to receive validation. I never set foot in them.

well Id def say that looking at YOUR profile, YOU dont need validation, man!
You're a GREAT looking guy, and allot of guys are drawn to you! maybe it is "validation for some, but if so, I dont think anyone takes them seriously.
YOU have LOTS of photo comments,, and I know they are UN-solicited. Men just wanna let you know personally what they think of you. I think it just makes allot of guys feel good.icon_biggrin.gif

hence the endless need for rating/critiquing eachother? I don't see why people would bother unless for the reasons I've describe already.icon_confused.gif

For the record, they're called "G.A.Y." threads ("Guy Above You"). And they are for collective gratification and amusement. Just like this one!

I'd rather stroke someone's ego than count hundreds of repeat responses by individuals.

There's more than one reason. Some guys do it to boost their egos. Some guys do it to cyber-flirt harmlessly. Some guys do it out of boredom. If you don't like them, just ignore them. They shouldn't be taken seriously.

They're just simple entertainment to me. A simple thing can be whatever you make it to be.

I think they're ways for guys to participate in threads without having to put in a lot of thought or effort, with the implication of garnering more profile views (particularly for that thread's OP).

A perfect example - and not even an "above you" thread - would be this:

    http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/2557869

Zero thought, zero effort, uninformative and wholly unentertaining - yet constantly, perpetually contributed to.

I'm peeved they get categorized under "Group Activities", mostly because sometimes there's a relevant and upcoming RJ Meet-up thread that I want to reference and it gets buried under 20 G.A.Y. threads in under a minute in that section.
