Straight Guys, saying I love you, to each other?

Is this like a thing?? I have a long-time friend whom I've spoken about before in a different thread--I think he's gay, but alas am not sure (Came out to me, but then quickly took it back, like he was joking)

    I digress.

He says, "I love you" every single time we hang-up on the phone. Do straight guys do that? Like all the time?

(This maybe a bit rhetorical, as I have other really good straight friends, but I don't normally get that every phone call)

Does love HAVE to mean sex?

My god... I can't believe what the world has devolved into.

I love my straight friends just as I love my family, and they love me the same. And they're not afraid to tell anyone that fact.

I lust after guys with hot abs and biceps. That has nothing to do with love.

They sure (some straight guys) do, ever since I was a little kid (and that's a rather long time) icon_wink.gif

    Consider yourself honoured.

My Best Friend is a Straight Guy. He tells Me He loves Me at the end of every conversation. TRUST Me -- he doesn't want to get into My pants.

A THOUSAND years ago when I was in a band the lead singer was as HETERO as they can possibly come...He NEVER hung up the phone or got into to a cab without saying " I Love You."

Love is a really great thing.

Enjoy it and hope it continues.

Ha its funny. My best friend is also straight (tested/proven) and even though it's very rare, he does say "I love you, [myname]". It's a different type of love. (I wish it were gay love though *evil laugh*, but it's not and I'm happy with it.)

Just tonight, he asked me what I think of a girl he is dating and I said she's fine. And I did not know why but he said "I love you". Just like that.

Very very cool. You're one lucky man. Doesn't need to mean sex and in fact much better if it has nothing to do with that.

I have many older and way younger straight friends. The younger .... I met all of them at the gym. Some have become quite close over time and I have zero doubt that they're straight, but still, they have the balls to say that to me from time to time. And THAT really makes my day. Wonderful thing to say and mean it.

I have many straight friends that tell me, "I love you" when we talk. Love does not always equal sex or romance.

This is very common with my group of friends, mostly straight and we also toss the "I love you" around. It gets worst when you add vodka into the mix, lol. I think its normal, especially with straight people who see being gay as a non-issue.

tbh straight guys don't say "I love you" very often, Its kinda occasional thing and not meant to be in any way romantic.
When said occasionally It could mean that he loved being with you today, (not because you are hot or anything but doing whatever you two did was fun) or that he's just being sarcastic.
But if he says that every time it could mean
    1) English is not his primary language and he's just translating the phrase word to word( or in colloquial way) from his own mother tongue to English. I some languages you say something colloquial which when translated word to word into another might gain some special meaning.
For eg in Urdu it's very formal to say "Tashreef laiyey" when you are asking someone to come in. But "tashreef" mean "bottom" or "ass", so even though the equivalent phrase in English would be "Please come in" or "have a seat", word-to-word translation is "Bring your ass in with you", imagine saying that to your parent or someone with high status.
In farsi, "dooset daarem", literally means "I've fallen for you", but it need not be romantic, you can say that to another guy to show that you liked being with him.
    2) back to the topic, the other reason I can think of him saying "i love you" is that he knows you are gay, so just pulling on your leg.

my straight bros say "i love you" all the time, they also hold doors and do other gentleman like things- i think its gay guys that have a tough time with emotional honesty. Saying "i love you" does not mean- MARRY ME HAVE MY BABIES.

    lol.

I think it's always nice to hear someone tell you that they love you. It doesn't insinuate romantic love in any way, shape or form. However, I must conclude that most of us who have posted have experienced this from a gay/ straight perspective. I think it's great that two STRAIGHT guys can say express love to each other in either verbal or written form, but let's be honest, I am sure they are not. ALWAYS signing off in their emails, " I love you" or ending every conversation as such. Even in this day in age, it's still rare. Remember, between a gay and straight man, yes, but the initial question in this post was between two straight guys. Still, no matter what, it's always nice to hear and you all should consider yourselves fortunate!

I have a gay acquaintance - whenever anyone is nice to the poor guy, he starts humping their leg. He can't separate human kindness with sexual interest. What a shame.

My straight friend makes out with me sometimes. He doesn't even know I'm gay. But he makes out with a few of my friends. Hugs, grabs ass, sticks his hands under our shirts.

Gay guys do not hold a monopoly on "I love you's." I have straight male friends with whom I exchange "I love you, man" from time to time, and it feels good everytime I say or hear it.
