Yes, but will the lasers be attached to cats? Until that happens, it's not really all that cool.

I see this as scientists needing jobs. I also see this as technology needing to be developed. Technology does trickle down. There's a lot of NASA technology that has and I'm sure there will be many lessons from this.

No, I definitely mean cats. But sharks would be sweet too.

There's a lot of applications for all of the research proposed here. Quantum computing, dark energy research, Death Stars. And all of it tantalizingly close to the Russian Federation! icon_eek.gif

Despite American perceptions that the European Union is a collection of debt-ridden, cradle-to-grave nanny states, the EU manages to produce an economy almost as large as the United States and China combined.

Not true at all. EU GDP is only slightly higher than that of the US. And it is falling apart faster than a Chinese motorcycle.

But seriously, that's why other countries can spend their money on other than military, because they just let the US foot the bill for the military.

That and the fact that there isn't really the need for military spending anymore.

Okay, so my figures were slightly out of date (2009). But the EU is still doing pretty well by the latest figures:

    GDP 2011 (millions of US$)
    EU 17,330,000
    US 15,090,000
    China 7,298,000
