Black Friday

Is it me or is Black Friday getting earlier and earlier every year? Stores are starting Black Friday deals on Thursday night and some online sites have started today. It seems to me like Thanksgiving is losing its significance; after you have just been thankful for everything you already have, to then go out and do mass shopping.

On another note, do you guys use this time to buy more things for yourselves or others?

Not to destroy your spirit but i found out for the most part black friday is a waste of my time to wait for couple hours and fight with people for some items with only 20 or 30 bucks off when I can use that time for sleeping. Or I guess because I don't really need anything that bad that I have to get from Black friday.

Yes, it's starting earlier every year.

I've never taken advantage of any deals. There's rarely anything that I really want for sale.

whats the point, eventually there will be as good as sales the further you go along. Its a scam to get you in to the store and most of the time they only have a couple of the products that are adverstised.

people waiting in line for hours for something really need to get a life

Although Canadian thanksgiving has long past, sadly the Black Friday sales have made their way north of the US border. I find it pretty sad that this is what has become of a holiday about being thankful for what we have, and then rushing out to buy stuff we don't need just because it's on sale... Be more than a consumer on this planet!

Stores can choose to open as early as they like - what you have left out of the equation are the idiots who frequent these establishments. What do you think would happen if noone went out shopping?

I do not shop on Black Friday as I am either working or at home. It will be a cold day in hell when I follow the mundane hype that passes for something worthwhile.

Amen. Personally speaking, I also have to work today. I mean- anybody who eats mcdonald's on thanksgiving needs to get a life. I'm earning more today though. icon_smile.gif

I will only wait in line if I'm being paid to do it, and I'm not, so I won't. If an offer isn't available online, then I don't want it. icon_neutral.gif

As long as people are willing to stampede into the stores, in the middle of the night, trampling other shoppers to death, just so they can get a few dollars off a few items, the stores will continue to toss them the bait.

I wouldn't be caught dead, having anything to do with this, even if they were GIVING stuff away.

You might be saving 50% on some deals, but you save 100% by just not going there.

I never understand people who lined up outside of Bestbuy like 2 days in advance in the cold just to be in line and buy a big screen LCD or whatever else they want. Most of the stuff on sale are sort of crap and not in good quality anyway. I usually do my shopping online and rarely do I find a great deal/item at the store that I really like. I'm sleeping in this year and watching Bond/007 movies.

Oh and to the OP, it's called Black Friday because it's officially starting the Christmas Shopping Season. It's the biggest shopping day of the year or so they say. icon_biggrin.gif

I am not shopping this year since I just lost in Vegas !!! hahaha jk.

Black Friday, went pretty well where I work. Nothing to complain about. Think that Supermarkets are still trying to hammer out the details... I just wish that Black Friday was Gray Friday, and Saturday was Black Saturday; cause I want to relish in all that is Thanksgiving with all the people I care about without having less than 4 hours of gratitude than 8 to 12 hours of shopping stress for some unlucky peoples. Miss the calm quiet Turkey Day food coma and talking about passed holidays and stories with family. ='|

I worked at 4am this morning. I literally hate the entire human race right now and I'm so mad at people. It's not even that great of deals, we marked all the prices up on Wednesday, and I had to leave Thanksgiving dinner early to get some sleep so that some asswipes could get a 20% off deal on some clothes. And my friend who works at H&M said that they have windows broken in and EAS systems ripped out of the ground from people storming the place in the morning.

We live a few miles from Santana Row and another huge mall. You should see the cars backed up for over a mile on the freeway in the slow lane - stopped - moving ahead one car length, then stopping for another 20 seconds or so - - - - - just inching their way the last mile or two before they even get to the fricken' mall. Then - - - oh that's where the fun begins! The parking mess! Godforsaken people waiting in long, long lines for a stinking parking place! Then - if they find one - (think of the gas they're burning up) they've got to fight the crowds in the stores.

Forget it! No way in Hell do we get mixed up with all the overweight, bad looking, van driving bargain hunters and their squalling brats. NO WAY.

I have to say, I did it this year. I saved money and am happy with it. But I will never do it again. With the money I saved, I rather have spent it, not to pushed or yelled at and wait in line all that time...Not worth it in my opinion

I don't understand waiting in line for hours before a store opens. I haven't met the woman I couldn't take a 65 inch flatscreen tv from.

I would pay to see you just take a tv from a woman!
