Apparently CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is going to turn on a brand new atom-smasher that is supposed renact the formation of the universe. In other words, they are going to try to put the Big Bang theory to test.

    Cool, right??
    WRONG!!

They fire subatomic particles at one another from opposite ends of a 17-mile long cannon, the particles will collide and thus should break apart and start forming new matter, which will then back up the Big Bang Theory.
Now the issue at hand is should this experiment prove false, there is a case that micro blackholes will be formed inside the cannons causing unknown catastrophic dangers to the planet!

Nice to know that it will be turned on, on my birthday....Wednesday September 10th.

    Doomsday much??

We just had this discussion, at
    http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/278387/

But, go ahead, worry. It's easier than research.

Check it out. All that Palin-Alaska-Rapture-Final Refuge prophecy stuff is about to come true.

I'm just seriously going to relate every post I make tonight back to Sarah Palin somehow.

Yeah, well the Governor Palin comparison is correct insomuch as her brain is about the size of a Large Hadron.

The Palin woman aside, based on the information given, I certainly would
hope all is being taken into account and risk is minimalized. We don't know everything and I would ask simply is the "reward" worth the supposed "risk" in this case? What risk is there really here, beyond the hype?

Oh Hoodie, best wishes for a great birthday there.....

You've got more chance of seeing me go down on some woman than being sucked into black hole on Wednesday. icon_smile.gif

Are you absolutely certain that is how you wished to phrase that?

I thought all these doomsday articles were just for comic relief. But really, we have had a black hole in the US for the past 8 years anyway, it is called the government. It has sucked up trillions of dollars already. icon_eek.gif

No way, Curious! On January 1, 2000 all the computers are going to stop working and planes will fall out of the sky and our nuclear missiles will be fired randomnly without any warning and ...

Oh wait ... I just checked the calendar.

Dude. Go outside a metropolitan area where there is no artificial light at night. Then look up into the sky into INFINITY. The earth doesn't amount to a frikin dust spec. So trust me, nothing we do on earth amounts to anything, nada,
nill. Our huge ego's just luv to believe we have some power. .

Yes but I've become rather attached to this spec of dust!

All this reminds me of something I read years ago about the first atomic bomb test, Trinity, at the time scientist's weren't sure if they would set off a chain reaction that would continue beyond the bomb's fuel source and scorch the earth. I guess there will always be a little apprehension when scientists throw the switch on some new super discovery.

Yeah.. isn't December 21st / 2012 the year the Mayan calender stops?
    That should be exciting...

Everything seems to be pointing towards WW3 tho..

That anyone would be worried about CERN is baffling. There’s no cause for alarm. The Big Bang isn’t flying debris and balls of roiling fire. It’s the rapid expansion of SPACE and the cooling off period that followed to allow for the creation of light elements, namely hydrogen. Relax. No catastrophic black holes, although I'd love it if there were. You'd never see it, so you could step right into it and never know what happened. Relax.

This is cause for excitement. It’s the progress of scientific and technological engineering that’s been going on unhurried for centuries while everyone else bickers about whose bogus god or party is better. This is benign. It’s a search for understanding. Get informed. Enjoy science. Or go join a Flat Earth Society.

Maybe some quarks will scatter in a certain way that will open a portal to another world with free minded people not controlled by fanatical, religious, superstitious folk and their desire to actually create their own end time prophecies (to be sure they come true).

I would like to be the first to jump in and check it out.

I know this is an open discussion but some of you guys need to take a chill pill. I mean, I know its an open discussion, but you dont have to attack me or the sources. Its just an article I read and decided to share it with you guys, i thought it was interesting and figured you guys would think so too. Anywho....

What is the benefit to doing this experiment?
Who really gives a crap on how the universe was created?
All I know is it happened and here we are.

Okay, just saw the video, no benefit? Don't know why they are doing it. Waste of time and money.
