There is! Appropriately, it's called Moonshiners and airs on the Discovery Channel.

Reality TV is fucking horrible. Rednecks or otherwise. Creativity and artistic expression is dead in TV programs. Ironically, we now have High Definition, Flat Screens, Blue Ray and Plasma TV's....all so we can get a crystal clear image of some worthless piece of trash on another cheap reality show. icon_evil.gif

A friend of mine was just telling me about a show centered around a bunch of rednecks who invented a superior duck caller, so I think there's another one.

I watched Honey Boo Boo once and wasn't sure if it was a beauty pageant or the Hunger Games.

Reality TV is stunting our growth as a society. It paints unrealistic pictures for young people of how the world works and in most cases is just a waste of time. I remember when TLC was "The Learning Channel" and had been created with GOVERNMENT FUNDING. Then it was sold off to private handlers and slowly became the acid-lubed fuckfest it is today. I used to pay $60/mo for extended basic cable (ch3-73 about). I cancelled that after i realized that 90% of what i was paying for was stuff that I would never watch!

Also the redneck-specific shows perpetuate the many stereotypes that are generalized across the South. As a Southerner I can confirm that these people DO EXIST! However you do not cross the border into the South and suddenly see a 65% drop in the average IQ.

Reality TV is so incredibly stupid but Doctor Who actually illustrated that in its first season after the reboot in 2005 with the "Gamestation".

You forgot Duck Dynasty, Cajun Pawn Stars, Cajun Justice, Bayou Billionaires, Redneck Island, Rocket City Rednecks and My Big Redneck Wedding.

I think most of them are filmed in my home state of Louisiana. icon_rolleyes.gif

When I was home for Christmas last year, the local news was on and there was a segment in which someone was trying to get elementary students to pet an opossum for show and tell. icon_eek.gif They will always be disgusting creatures!

The ever-more-numerous "Housewife" shows are even more loathsome.

    Always remember that.
Just because something becomes privatized does not mean it becomes better.
Some are under that mental spell.

I dont understand whats wrong with blue-collar people on tv though.
I don't see anything wrong with it either. I enjoy Swamp People and Ice Road Truckers.

Seems to me there's something to be said for living life on your own terms and unconventionally relative to most other folks - whether or not it would be something I would necessarily ever do.

I work in TV and see this type of thing all the time. TV needs to find great characters to make a reality show work. US TV viewers loves being entertained by seemingly unknown niche groups of people- HONEY BOO BOO, JERSEY SHORE, MOB WIVES, DUCK DYNASTY etc. Most of these niches are in certain places where big characters lives: NJ/NYC, Atlanta, LA area, deep south, Miami. There are no successful reality shows with boring people. Additionally 'linear tv' (you just turn on the TV and watch that's on) is becoming a thing of the past. Most city oriented or younger people DVR their shows, dont have cable, using Netflix, Internet, VOD, etc. Thus this leaves what we call C & D county people (rural people) watching a lot of measurable TV that Neilsen rates. So you if you like say American Horror Story and do not watch it within 3 or even 7 days from the date it aired, Neilsen thinks you never watched it. Things will continue to skew older and more rural until the measurements change. This is one of the reasons why CBS is #1 broadcast channel and Nickelodeon is dying. CBS skews old and Nick is for kids.

    I just can't take it anymo' !!!

look, im talkin like a redneck.
Jersey Shore was entertaining tho....like the first 2 seasons. after that it totally bit the shark.

Teen Mom was always depressing. Never liked thast show.
I still to this day like MTV's "True life" . . . They always do it on interesting people.... I wish more of those would be made. Great show.

"True life: I'm in a polyamorous relationship"
    Sweet!

Do people forget shows like The Walking Dead, Revenge, or Game of Thrones exist?

Reality TV is great for just flipping on watching during idle time. You don't need to be into the show to understand and barely need to watch any past episodes to like it.
