    Greetings:

Thank you Sam_u_el for bringing this topic for discourse and adding the two websites to your message. I read them and then took the time to view a video cited by one of these sites' articles. The video is "I am a Man: Black Manhood and Sexual Diversity". This video is available at http://vimeo.com/27859721 and was made possible by Cleo Manago who is founder and CEO of the AmASSI Centers for Wellness, Education and Culture, and founder and national organizer of the Black Men’s Xchange (BMX). I highly recommend anyone who wants to join this conversation to view this video to get a wider perspective on what Sam_u_el has brought up for discussion.

I think that the question that Sam_u_el posted reflects a symptom of something broader that impacts African American/Black men who have sex with men, whether or not they identify as "gay". Issues of socio-economics, race, gender and sexuality interact with each other when we deal with questions of violence against glbt persons of color. The video I recommended addresses right-on the concept of black masculinity as it has been interpreted by European/White America and how is has impacted how African American men in general and glbt of color have viewed themselves.

I find it interesting that it took someone from another country (Turkey) to bring a subject like this for discussion in RJ. One thing that Mr. Manago and others indicated in the video that I recommended is that discussions of race are still avoided by many European/White Americans and that people of color's journey to re-define themselves is still an on-going process. Since my initial response to Sam_u_el's has been rather lengthy :-), I will wait to read responses from other RJ members before I share any other thoughts on this topic.

Again, thank you Sam_u_el for encouraging a dialogue about this important subject.

Wouldn't it have been easier just to share your thoughts first instead of the huge block of text basically saying nothing, Rubrod64?

Wouldn't surprise me (but this article doesn't statistically prove this), as most murders in the US occur in urban areas, and in poor urban areas at that, and most urban murder victims are killed in their own neighborhoods. A large majority of urban blacks in the US live in poor areas, and have some of the highest rates of being a murder victim. Why should we expect anything different among black murder victims who happen also to be gay? Much more refined stats would be necessary to prove anything more specific.

If you read what I wrote carefully, I shared some preliminary impressions about the subject. Moreover I suggested the view of a video to get more information and encourage more discussion about this topic. I also stated that I want to withhold my other comments until I hear more opinions from other people. I like to listen to what others say and then compare their views with mine. I do not see the need to rush into commenting, because I believe it's important to share wisdom rather than to pretend I have all the answers. Don't worry, you will read some of my own opinions in a near future. Patience please! By the way, Jeron I did not see any opinions from you yet. Do you mind sharing any about this topic? icon_biggrin.gif

Really? I always thought they killed cops, smoked crack, and wore their pants low to show off their Loony Tunes boxers.

Mmm...this is a very complex subject and complex subjects cannot have brief answers. What is your opinion about this subject? Don't worry about the length of your response, as long as it is informed and honest.

I didnt know of such figures.
Sad enough the so-called gay media rarely speaks on such events.

Well , I thank u for first reading a serious topic , & second for taking your time to see what it actually is !
Most people here are for fun
& lack the basics of helping someone in some point of time

Black community was been under-esteemed many years ago in every Non-black country,
but since Martin Luther , prominent figures & today Obama have made their expressions felt.
Its not a Nazi or a Ku Klux Klan rule today
everyone is born & meant to live their life as free person irrespective of class & color & RELIGION too

Seeing the homophobia in the Black music(Grime or hip-hop or Dancehall)
it makes me sick why they bash gays ,when they are straight themselves ,its nothing new for me as even in middle-east we are either shot to death or legally hanged for sodomizing their culture.
Speaking of jesus , they should really understand what that man said ,Not to kill someone , Love everyone , Eunuchs (an umbrella term for LGBT in ancient Aramaic times) , Love those who hate u, follow the path of light ,
But they dont see that , i follow the barbaric things that Moses told them & not what jesus told. homophobic Blacks are no less than homophobic whites( like Adolf Hitler & the middle-east )

Well brother have u heard of down-low culture ?
I'm not here for a racist strategy for any black ,im just trying to help , those black people ,who are being killed in the most Modern & developed country in the world !
things like such are east expected from the worlds super-power & everyone should try to put a stop to this

Talking of M-East , LGBT can never exist until the whole Arab league is nuked & restarted again , until Islam is , LGBT will be killed with legal actions & Prophetic orders of jihad for just being a disease,we have no lawyers or attorney to support, they find you gay, U ARE KILLED,
over 20 thousand gays were killed all over the Arab league
strating from White areas of (Morocco -to--Tunisia-to-Egypt-to-Saudi Arabia-to-Iran-to-Iraq-to-Syria) to Black areas (of Somalia- to - Sudan - to - other areas)

if u ever happen to google the execution of gays by islamists , trust me , you would cry & your heart would fall numb ,how we people live

Lebanon & Israel are the only countries were gay sex is not punishable by anything ,just a taboo nothing threatening
since lebanon is the only christian majority country & liberal

If i couldn't do it in my country ,
i can try to atleast make better for countries where there are liberal people,
An Exile from Iraq , i've seen a lot of things which no-one on RJ has ever seen ,
how they hunt you down , how they trap you & hang you or shoot you with the name of God
i still have the effect & it will always be , i feel like their someone pointing a gun from the back of my head,
it spooks me , but it cant go away ,that the terror i have lived with & still do, knowing ONEDAY, i would be killed too & i am certain of that,

& Americans & europeans have no idea ,what homophobia actually is !
until you see the videos , of Middle-east

LGBT(in middle-east) = Sin = Jihad= Cut the throat = Hang Them = We saved the Allah's word = we go to heaven

statistically, african americans make up about 50 percent of the murder population, with 93 percent of those murders being committed by other african americans. it's not a gay thing.

It sounds like a true thing myself..But I haven't been physically abused by anyone yet. I mean, I do get comments and snide/rude remarks but never physical violence, at least not yet and people would know I'm gay just by looking at me.

Edit: Well actually, I did have one a few weeks ago. Someone tried to throw a bottle at me when I was walking home from college. But I don't know if that's considered true violence... icon_confused.gif
