I got a free bottle of it and gave it a shot. I definitely went right to sleep after taking three tablets but I often had pretty weird dreams when I took it.

Well, I have some - can't remember why I bought it exactly. No obvious effects and the pseudo-science marketing doesn't provide any really plausible mechanism for any. The reason that I didn't finish the bottle for the sake of experimentation, was that the dosages were absurdly high, to the extent that one might expect some toxicity.

I take 3 each night. I sleep really well. No problems with dreams, to speak of. I do find that I get quite hot while I sleep, but I think that has more to do with the casein shake I drink before bed, and the energy required to digest it.

I've read a number of sources that say adult men don't get enough Magnesium in their diet. Magnesium is important for the building of critical hormones in the body. (Sorry I don't know which ones, I didn't retain that level of information in my brain.)

I don't know if it makes a huge difference but I agree with those that say it helps with the sleeping.

To the OP, if what you're looking for is sleep aid, I recommend REM Caps by Hammer Nutrition. It has more than just melatonin in it, and I truly feel like I get put into a deeper level of sleep than without it.

I don't notice a change in dreams when I'm on it - I have weird dreams anyway.

I do notice a boost in testosterone though, I can literally pole-vault out of bed with my morning wood when I'm on ZMA. Though I buy the non-branded plain old Zinc and Magnesium cos it's the same product just way cheaper!

    yourname2000 said^^ Well, it's missing the "A", (the B6)...but I loved the morning visual. icon_redface.gif

My understanding is that ZMA is supposed to increase testosterone by leading to a deeper sleep....apparently testosterone is manufactured during REM sleep. I found I slept very deeply, though sometimes I would wake up then fall back to sleep then wake up then fall back to sleep, etc (but still woke up feeling really well rested.)

No, it does have the B6 in it as well, it's just not mentioned in the name for some reason - it's identical to the branded ZMA.

I thought Zinc in general was good for men - sperm production etc! So not only do you get huge stonkers, you also blow huge loads. Win-win.

I just started trying ZMA after reading about it online. Haven't really noticed anything yet. Was hoping for a testosterone boost.

The two supplement stores I go to (GNC and Vitamin World) had two very different ZMA products, though. The GNC one has Valerian Root and Hops Flower in it to help promote sleep, whereas the Vitamin World one doesn't have anything at all for sleep in it. I went with the GNC brand because it was a bit cheaper for more tablets and it does seem to relax me a bit before bed.

To those who use ZMA: How long did it take for you to feel any effects from it? And is better to get a brand that has something sleep-inducing in it or better to get one that is only the Zinc, Mag, and B6?

Love it. I have weird dreams with Melatonin and not ZMA. I take Cellucor's ZMA and it gets me so relaxed and I feel well rested when I wake up, even if I only get 6 hours. Hope that helps!

Unintended saidZMA, as touted for increasing testosterone levels does not as shown by several independent studies.

However, Magnesium has many proven benefits especially to some with mood disorders.

My advice, don't waste your money on ZMA and just get some Vitamin Shop brand Magnesium.

    ^^^^

i tried it way back and it caused me to fall asleep but then have trippy dreams and wake up on and off- typically b vitamins give you energy, magnesium relaxes muscles and promotes relaxation. Just go with the magnesium.

Your body benefits greatly from proper sleep- which most people don't get.

Valerian root is a natural sleep aid. It's available in the vitamin section of every store. The only drawback is the capsules have a terrible smell. Just hold you nose when you open the bottle! icon_smile.gif

i take it. Nothing special dream wise but i feel i sleep deeper yet i wake up earlier . A side effect of a better sleep maybe? I have no idea.

why is it better to avoid dairy before taking it? Is it for absorption reasons ?

I only take it on heavy workout nights (usually legs or back night) to help me sleep. We work out late due to work schedules, and sometimes it's difficult to get to sleep. I notice I'm not as sore in the morning, and I sleep more soundly. I don't really get the weird dreams, but my husband does. I don't usually remember my dreams much anyway, so that may be why.
