I think it'll be interesting to see how Republicans and their voters respond to him going forward.

Will they continue to sew the seeds of division and use LGBT people as the target, or will they evolve beyond their tea party nut jobs and try to create a more inclusive party that can embrace socially conservative views (ie. moving to be more supportive of marriage equality because monogamy is a good thing, regardless if you're straight or gay) in a more inclusive way.

I'm not familiar with this guy, so it would be interesting to see how he'd voted for bills that directly impact the LGBT community.

I appreciate the difficulty of coming out later in life AND in a public spotlight. BALLSY move!....lets see if there is a recall vote....especially since his announcement came a month AFTER his re-election....He knew before he was campaigning that he was gay and never said anything.....this is a calculated announcement, VERY political and self serving. ...sounds like another GREAT member of the GOP. icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gificon_question.gifshock:

Hopefully this will lead to more acceptance and increased progressive thinking among members of the Pennsylvania GOP.

Try getting all the narrow minded, bible thumping screwballs who run the GOP to start thinking along those lines.

Rick Santorum must be having a fit to find out about this!

Who gives a shit about Rick Santorum. The best thing that could ever happen to the Pennsylvania GOP is to be permanently ridded of ignorant fools like him.

Well, New York's political system is not a whole hell of a lot better. We have our fair share of ignorant, bigoted assholes in politics.

You realize that you can still be a Republican and vote for a pro-gay rights agenda, right? Honestly, this is a good thing. We need people within the Republican party ranks who can help change the party from the inside. It may not happen over night, but Fleck and the Log Cabin Republicans are a good start.

I wonder about this guy's self image having worked for the scouts and as a Republican. His therapist must be going wild.

He does have a way with a peppermint tie, though.

That is kind of an odd thing Republicans love to say while at the same time deciding who can marry and getting in the way of the choices a woman can make in her life.

Ewww... you're not supposed to want to make santorum, santorum is supposed to be an accident that just happens. But knowing how screwed up he is, he probably does.

I hope he enjoys his last term. I can't imagine that uber conservative area reelecting him in 2 years. Kudos to him for coming out, but I kinda question the timing. If it was that important to do on December 1st, why not on November 1st?

More openly gay GOP politicians means more opportunities for young gay golddigers to be trophy Husbands!

He's brave. For those of you unfamiliar with PA geography and politics, the state has often been described as having Philadelphia on one end, Pittsburgh at the other and Arkansas in the middle. Essentially, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are liberal while the rest of the state is mainly conservative. It says that Mike Fleck grew up, went to school, represents, and lives in counties in the middle that are traditionally conservative.
