Why does the stereotype of gay relationships not lasting long exist?

As someone who hasn't been in the gay dating world for a lot of time I'm confused as to why this idea is persistent. I've heard both some gays and anti gay marriage advocates proclaim this.

TheGuyNextDoor saidI think gay relationships are very similar to straight relationships in the fact that the younger you marry..
the better your chances are it Not lasting. It takes kissing a handful or frogs before you meet your Prince.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense but the only time to find a mate in the gay world is when you're young.

LOL.......... No worries. we don't have an expiration date on us.
You can still find your mate well into your mature years.

Well it'll be harder then cause the market for older gay men is much more limited. Personally speaking as someone who is very age conscious to be delicate about it I'm afraid that it doesn't happen now it wont happen. I don't find forty year olds terribly sexy now and I doubt I will when I am in my forties lol

Most marriages (straight) end in divorce, so it's not just gay people who have trouble with long term relationships. Maybe it's the concept of monogamy and one person is the end all and be all to any one person that is the real culprit.

I've been with my bf for almost nine years. We have a house and a dog and plans to grow old together. We want to officially tie the knot once gay marriage is legal. icon_smile.gif
