What's your dream wedding?

I imagined a sort of 'Ghetto in the Springtime' sort of theme. The carpet in the church would be taken out and replaced with faux sod and the wallpaper would be like a brick print to resemble the brick homes of the projects. Around the altar there would be chain link fence with barbed wiring and instead of flowers or bells hanging over me and the groom there would be a pair of tennis shoes. All of the bridesmaids would be wearing strapless babydoll dresses about three inches above the knee in either fuschia, grape, orange or hot pink. And all of the groomsmen would wear Stacey Adams or Stacey Adams-like suits in either peach, white, baby blue or lime green. And the wedding cake would be like seven layers and each layers would be a different flavor of a ghetto liquor, lol. Either this or a winter in wonderland theme.

Keep in mind I've been planning this since I was twelve and I've gone through several drafts of this.

    What about you?

    What's your dream wedding?

I once had it, planned it and made it happen, in 1978. We had wanted it to be outdoors, at her family's country estate that she loved. But the Catholic Archdiocese thought we were having some kind of hippie wedding, and refused permission. US??? A hippie wedding??? I was an Army Captain, she a Lieutenant. The Archbishop refused to even hear our appeals.

So fine, we moved it indoors just 2 weeks before the wedding. And had it personally concelebrated by the Papal Nuncio for the United States, a family friend. And deliberately didn't invite the Archbishop. A severe insult he deserved, since the Nuncio outranked him, the Pope's Ambassador to the United States who brought a Papal Blessing to our marriage, and who refused the Archbishop's request to be invited. You don't fuck with Bob, I don't care who you are. icon_twisted.gif

A 25-piece chamber orchestra was in the choir loft of the chapel at Seaton Hall University, just 2 blocks from my brides's home in South Orange, New Jersey. She played the French Horn, so I arranged for her entrance to be a fanfare from Handel's Water Music, that features French Horns. After the ceremony we went outside into the gardens (it was June), where the orchestra reassembled to play more Baroque music for our outdoor receiving line. A more beautiful & elegant wedding you cannot imagine. And then the reception for over 300 at a private home... icon_exclaim.gif

If my partner & I can ever be legally married, I will use that Handel again. It sounded just like this, and I want us to process down the aisle to it:

I'm not into wedding. Let the straight people do it. I'm happy, if gay men and lesbian women from all over the world are allowed to marry their partners. This will be a wishful thinking. But it's not my thing. There are other ways to express your love to your man than changing rings, signing papers, like separate property.

Well in my dream that is I am walking past crowds of people in the audience. Kelly Price's He Proposed To Me is playing in the background my husband is at the top of the stairs at the altar with a sly smile on his face. My family cosisting of my mother, father, brother, two sisters and etc look on and clap as I continue to make way to the altar. Tears begin to form in my eyes as my father stands up and gives me a hug signifying that he approves of my decision to marrying another man. Aaliyahs Come Over begins to play while me and my man make our vows. We then kiss in front of the rousing crowd and walk down the aisle hand in hand.

I then wake up from my dream smiling.

I never really thought about it. I kinda rather keep it small to good family and friends. No reason to invite the gay-bashers, when they'll just ruin it.

I'd be okay with a big celebration, but I'd be happy with just me and my man enjoying the start of our lives together with just the two of us. Maybe nice suits, but that's about it.

I'm not very creative in some areas icon_neutral.gif

If I ever get married, I would much rather have a simple ceremony but a nice long honeymoon of a life time, somewhere warm, maybe somewhat secluded place.

That's my roots. Some people of Indian extract have Indian themed weddings. Some people who are Jewish have traditional Jewish ceremonies. I recognize where I come from.

But I'm just saying it's what I know. It's where I come from and how most of the people on my side of the family still live. It's part of who am and my culture. I mean hell some people have sport themed weddings. It's just a part of my identity.
