Cause I was low on cash last week, bought a $20 huge container of protein powder from Walmart.

The stuff makes me bloated and I feel sick after having it.

Anyone recommend a nicer blend that's maybe more natural but cheaper? or ways to make your own?

    gimme an idea guys

Before buying, look at how many scoops make a serving. I was in a Max Muscle looking at shakes and the guy kept trying to sell me a bottle of tub of something.

Then I looked at the number of scoops/serving and it was the same price as Isopure when you calculated by serving, since the Isopure is more nutrient dense.

I love Nectar by Syntrax. It's Promina whey isolate. It is like drinking juice!

    Check out: www.syntrax.com

Please...nobody tell me that it is bad for you!

I recently discovered a company called "The Bigger Picture" -- go to:

    www.optimumnutrition.com

and look for GOLD STANDARD 10% WHEY - the Strawberry/Banana is the best tasting I have found -- great mixed with OJ and a frozen banana

yeah, I also use the optimum whey and love it....

high protein, low carb shake perfect for when you wake up in the morning or right after your workout.

    I buy it here:

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html

i usually just get the 10 lb bag because it is the best deal. it usually lasts 2 - 3 months so it is an ok deal... not the cheapest protein around, but certainly one of the best.

GNC's brand and Gold Standard Whey Isolate have been a favorite of mine. Isolate protein powders tend to be less "pancakie" than others. I think I bought a 5lb bucket for like $45...and their serving size is one scoop that give you about 25g of protein (GNC's brand).

Tried ON's chocolate mint. Never looking back. Strawberry and Banana are good for adding to morning fruit smoothies tho.

The Optimum Nutrition is 100% Whey..not 10%..It's about $40 for 5 lbs. It lasts a while, the chocolate flavor is decent. Low in fat and carbs and high in protein...Syntha 6 is also good, it's a bit pricey for what you get though. Muscle Milk, especially the Root Beer one, is amazing tasting, the downside is the amount of fat in it.

2 - tablespoon Fig Pep ( complex sugar made from pureed figs)
    8 - oz frozen fruit- blackberries,blueberries etc.
    1/2 - banana

If you don't like protein shakes, then why use them at all? They don't do a better job of providing your body protein than ordinary food, and they are much more expensive.

For example, a 6 ounce can of tuna provides about 30 grams of protein and costs a little over a dollar. An equivalent amount of a protein supplement will cost around $2.50. A quart of skim milk drunk over a course of a day provides about the same amount of protein as the tuna, at about the same cost. 8 tablespoons of peanut butter also provide about the same amount of protein as the tuna or skim milk, but is even cheaper at less than $1.00.

If you are eating a proper diet, then the protein shake is unnecessary to begin with. If you like the protein supplement, then feel free to use it. But I hear a lot of people complaining about the taste, and it baffles me why they use it when there are perfectly good (and much, much cheaper) natural ways to provide your body with that same protein.

Was looking around the site and very nice how you can completely customize your protein. I may order some to try it out.

    Really? That's odd....
I'll probably not try those since I'm not a fan of Starbucks.

You can buy Muscle Milk protein powder at Target. I buy the chocolate flavor, mix it in a blender with chocolate soy milk, add a banana and some frozen strawberries or blueberries. Tastes great, especially right after a work out.

    Great Protein shake alpha

    Mine is very similar:

    2 cups blueberries/rasberries
    small ripe banana
3/4 cup probiotic yogurt, sugar free-no additive whatsoever
    2 tbsp natural peanut butter
scoop protein powder- at this stage
    1 tbsp nonpasteurized honey
    water

I had no yogurt one day and I used cottage cheese, it was great.

I am also using P90X recovery drink.

Think of food in your digestive track when training, the less you have the better your workout will be. Meals should be small and frequent. It keeps the GI track functioning optimally.
