Anyone who chats with me or checked my profile know I was anticipating this test because it was for my black belt.

Last year for my brown belt my physical was running the school steps for warm up, from 3rd -6th to basement back to 3rd 6 times, 70 situps, 70 leg raises, 50 pushups.

I basically struggled through everything but for the life of me I was not even able to do 40 pushups, so i really lucked out with the overall score and got the lowest ranking brown belt.

I took some time outside the dojo to focus on handling my katas, sparring, fitness blah blah and this time I easily did the steps 7 times, 80 situps, 80 leg raises, 55 pushups.. my katas were great and my sparring was great as well

My sensei told me that although I did great and meet the technical and physical requirements for black belt, because I only had my brown belt for about a year, it's just too soon for me to be promoted to black. I was promoted to 1st kyu brown so on my next promotion sometime next year, the next stop is black because that's literally the next level.

Overall although i'd be happier if I didn't have to endure the waiting game icon_wink.gif, I'm proud of my improvements and plan to keep going up. So happy for the color belts I helped before and after training time. Everyone worked hard and everyone was rewarded.

but I guess my point is, in the bigger picture the title is great, but the progress, hard work, discipline, teamwork, and humility are far more important.

So in the meantime, time for more training at prospect/central park icon_biggrin.gif

My program has two more belts from Brown which is where I am now, Red, High Red THEN Black. The physical and skill requirements are similar but some of us opt for the bike or swimming instead of running cus or knees are shot.
Congrats on your success. Looking forward to seeing your Black Belt!
