    Fire escapes, poles, and slides, wouldn't help when you're above the floor that's demolished.

    Oh, and poles are a bad idea for the elderly, out of shape, disabled, and dismembered.

    Dismembered? Even traditional fire stairwells wouldn't do the dismembered much good, unless some good Samaritan wanted to kick the pieces down the steps.

    Just be sure to place a gated bannister around it, which seems missing here, or you & visitors might discover an even faster way down than using the pole.
