It's a great technical achievement. Give it some respect!

Consider blocking Flash content on your browser. I did that months ago and have been a happier person ever since. Blocking Flash stops so much of that annoying stuff, as well as the constant barrage of banner ads on sites like this one. For example, I went to check out the Advocate site and with Flash content blocked, I saw only the Advocate home page and a small Flash circle icon in the center of the page. The Volt ad was blocked from running automatically. It only ran once I click the Flash icon and approved it.

Btw, I'm using Firefox and the 'Flashblock' add-on. The nice thing about the Flashblock add-on is that it allows the user to permit Flash content from certain sites without manual approval. I have YouTube on my 'approved' list and therefore don't have to manually click to allow each video before viewing.

Until there are batteries which have much higher capacities and better service lives, I think that they need to stop pushing electric vehicles.

I would love to own an electric car, don't get me wrong, but the constraints of the current designs outweigh any benefits gained.

Maybe when silicon nanotube batteries proliferate into affordable battery solutions for automobiles, I will invest in one.

Personally I think the volt is quite ugly; sure the tech is cool, but it looks awful.

I think the hydrogen powered cars like the ones we've seen from BMW are probably more viable at this point than EVs are.

Crash it, don't discharge the battery or drain fluids, then leave the Volt sitting. It will kill itself with fire.

I'm a little tired of the weekly emails about the volt "coming out." Although it would be a bit more interesting if they actually broadcast a television ad, during the superduperbowl for example, announcing to general audiences that the volt is a "gay car."

Now that would be coming out.

Anyway, you would think that with all these "smart" ads and consumer databases, they would target ads for stuff like that to people who actually have money.

Oh yeah that's annoying. Now if it was a Tesla Roadster I wouldn't mind as much.

A gay car????? I don't think anyone is buying that compromised product of mid west conservatism. And the Logo is the worst I have ever seen on a car.

In Australia , commercials have The new Holden Volt coming "up' , not coming "out" ....
It seems , only the Americans consider the Volt as a gay car ...Hahaha..

I'm thinking about it. 35-40 miles per day is just about right for me.

Theoretically, I would use little to no gas. I have my old big thumping V8s for the ICE thrill, and no new V8 sounds as good as the old stuff (Can't do the cam duration and meet emissions). Plus, I'm sure I'll do a Chevy SS when it's out.

The lease deals on the Volt would be about the same as my fuel bill per month.

And no, IMO, I don't think the Volt is a homo car. You can have the Prius and Leaf for that.

Sure does. Just tried it. I don't think I've ever heard of the Advocate before. Is it national?

Production was suspended in April due to low demand but the Leaf is not doing much better. Rumor has it that Tesla is doing OK but that car is inspirational.

I still need a back seat for the occasion when I have clients with me. I mostly do out of state absolute net retail so even the back seat isn't nearly as critical as it once was. For $279 / month though on a 36 month lease it makes a lot of sense.

Volt has seen the best sales as of yet recently. 2012 sales so far are more than double that of the Nissan LEAF.

I've actually DRIVEN a few electric cars, most potently the Fisker Karma. I'm not impressed at ALL with the driving dynamics.

Imagine, if you will, the current controversy over the demise of hydraulic power steering and the rarity of electric boosters that actually communicate with you. Now...multiply that by four or ten. I suppose after a while you get used to it but taking that car around the skidpad the first time literally scared the living shit out of me. I could barely read the chassis at all and couldn't tell whether the rear wheels were even moving unless i looked out the window and said "oh, i'm moving"

Electric cars, for now, should stick with being efficient and family-friendly. Keep working on that performance angle though. We'll need it eventually.

ironically, this wasn't meant to be a "Chevy Volt thread". I was just sick of having an advert take over my monitor every fucking time i opened the site, lol.

Karma is not all electric cars PHEV or Otherwise. IMO a terrible car. Slower than my GTI. Only 20 miles of EV range. Poor fuel economy outside EV mode. And the media screen is grayscale....

Try driving a Tesla model S. It won Motortrend car of the year for a reason. On par with any luxury performance sedan of similar caliber.
