It seems like Broadway is always trying to put things to music that honestly do not need to be put to music. What are some movies and books you're surprised haven't been made into musicals yet?

Roots-I would do it if I didn't think nearly all of blackdom everywhere would come for me

Night- I'm not ashamed to admit I'm actually doing this now

The Casey Anthony Story-I call dibs on this

The Great Gatsby-This almost seems like it was purposely avoided. It only makes sense to be a musical. It could be like Mame

Gone With the Wind- Again this seems like it was ignored for some reason

The Wedding Singer- This may very well be one already

Are You Being Served?- Bare with me but this would actually work. Think of the original show and how campy it was and how often they danced anyway and then all the costumes they wore and Mrs. Slocombe's hair. It would be an awesome musical.

Aladdin- What's taking them so long?

Because they can. Lol although the Titanic musical supposedly had nothing to do with the movie. My friend was in a version of it. She loved it.

And despite being incredibly watered down out of necessity, it was visually and musically stunning.

If you got past the cheesy sets there were some awesome moments and music in "Titanic the Musical." Like the unlikely chemistry between a young Brian D'Arcy James playing a butch hunky sailor with a marriage proposal asking the nasty queen telegraph operator to transmit it, who responds by presaging both the internet and for some, the RealJock experience!

The Simpsons TV show loves to spoof Broadway; here are two musical numbers from A Streetcar Named Desire and Planet of the Apes musicals. LOL stuff :-)

the wedding singer was turned into a musical. do your homework. and for the record, if you're talking about night as in eli wiesel, you should be ashamed.

I know it sounds disrespectful but it could be done. It would be haunting but it could be done. I'm surprised it was never even made into a movie. It would be beautifully chilling.

After Gilligan's Island: The Musical I've been too traumatized to see another musical for years. Operas are OK, and gay choruses, but no stage musicals. icon_sad.gif

(My BF at the time was on the theatre's board, he was obliged to attend, and wanted me with him. I still haven't forgiven him)

Since the OP's drafting "Night" as a musical, here's my answer to his question:

    Wit - The Musical.

With a little soft shoe it might go like this:

Back when I had shoes and eyebrows
in the days when I would espouse
    poetry while teaching English Lit.
For backless gowns I wore Chanel
and not this poly cotton hell
nor I.V.s as my jewelry, I could shit.
    Students called me cynical
    a bitch until a clinical
diagnosis made me see things differently.
I used to be so rational
now all I want’s compassion for
the lymph node they found on my ovary.
Little did I know the answer
would be in a bout of cancer
chemo trials, grand rounds through which I’d sit.
    Never once upon this journey
    lying flat upon this gurney
did I guess bravery’s the soul of wit.

    Hocus Pocus.

Would lend itself quite well to a musical since there is a lot of music in the movie plus it's very theatrical.

Here's a crazy idea: how about an original story? The Book of Mormon is an original story and it's the biggest hit in years.

No no I think you have the wrong industry, lol. Originality isn't some that's done often here.

A big reason why the Book of Mormom succeeded was because of who was behind it. The South Park guys' fame really gave the musical an advantage.

Lol the music I had in mind was acutally more like the score from Schlinder's List meets the score from Lord of the Rings. I've been busy with other things so I really only have like maybe one or two songs done. But my mind goes back to it a lot.

Also I have been looking at a lot of Monk episodes and I think the show lends itself well to music. The theme song is one of Randy Newman's best songs. I could just imagine Monk singing that song while convorting around on stage with dancers representing the things Adrian fears the most.
