Hallelujah! Starting midnight tonight, by law, TV commercials cannot be louder than programming. It's part of the CALM (Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation) Act. If a station violates this, contact the FCC as described on their website below:

When sending your complaint to the Commission, please include the time, channel, a description of the commercial, whether you are watching pay TV or broadcast television using an antenna, and your contact information. You can file your complaint with the FCC's Consumer Call Center at 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322) voice or 1-888-TELL-FCC (1-888-835-5322). Your complaint can also be faxed to 1-866-418-0232, or mailed to: Federal Communications Commission Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau Consumer Inquiries & Complaints Division 445 12th Street, SW Washington, DC 20554

Thanks for sharing this news! What's worse than having a show you're watching go to commercial - and then out comes a lot of crap so loud you can't stand it - so you find yourself hurriedly grabbing your remote to mute the damn commercial? How many times have all of us had to do this? Remember the times before remotes - when you'd have to jump out of your chair and run across the room to your t.v. to get to the volume button and turn it down - when blaring commercials would blast out at you? Glad for this new ruling.

Commercials are the ONLY reason I have NEVER subscribed to cable or dish TV. Hell, I won't even watch a YouTube video if it forces you to watch a commercial before the video.

I wish they'd pass a law outlawing commercials in entertainment altogether.

There were supposed to be NO commercials with the advent of cable t.v. according to the bill of goods we were sold back in the 70's. The story was that we would have to "pay" to watch t.v. and the streets were being dug up to lay cable lines. Rooftop antennas were going to be a thing of the past. There would be a fee of about $10.00 a month (in NorCal) but at least there would be no commercials. What happened? Personally - - - - I'd rather put an antenna back up on the roof of my house and get NO cable bill. Who needs hundreds of channels - - not to mention an ever-growing cable bill with a ton of commercials?
