Since we're gay is it at least a party bus?

Misleading headline and bullshit lead line

"The legal fortunes of gays and racial minorities may move in opposite directions..."

If anything, they're moving in the exact same direction even if African American's take a backstep on affirmative action because...

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390443295404577547043705374610.html
"There isn't a single openly gay chief executive officer in the Fortune 1000, according to the Human Rights Campaign."

So it's not as if gay America has broken into that ol' boys club either, while we are actively following the civil rights trail blazed by African Americans. So in reality gays are moving in the direction of black America regarding human rights while blacks might wind up moving for the moment in the direction of gay America regarding participation in the land of opportunity.

Almost always in life we take a step back and then two steps forward and then another step back and then another two steps forward just to move ahead two steps.

That our adjacent two step dance happens to be viewed in a stop action photo showing one foot forward and one foot back does not by itself indicate any divergence of the two. And it could be seen as divisive to suggest there is though I'd imagine the copy editors just thought they were being clever.

Unfortunately, it means that Jim Crow is alive and well among white gays. icon_sad.gif

IslamicBottom4SatanistTop saidIm very unsure how permitting gay marriage effects university entrances and voting rights.

It doesn't. Even when you read the article you feel like the title was bait for a story that never happened. Almost makes you think that there was a divide and conquer goal behind the article.

Yeah it does come off that way. The two issues don't have anything to do with each other. And those voting law things would effect EVERYONE and not just blacks.

Of course treatment of blacks and gays differ. It's still okay to be openly prejudiced against gays -- and then scream that your religious right to be a bigot is being violated if you are called out on it. Most racists are ashamed to openly proclaim their racial prejudices because society won't accept it.

In Lawrence v. Texas less than 10 years ago, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia mockingly compared homosexuals claiming the right to engage in gay sex to those claiming a right to engage in "flagpole sitting". (Why am I the only one who picked up on that double entendre?) Yes -- he's still on the Court today. If a Supreme Court justice can openly mock gays in a published opinion regarding the fundamental rights of homosexuals, why would we expect anything better from them in the next round of pronouncements on our rights?

Notice Maggie Gallagher's (NOM) comments all over this?

Remember their plot being exposed to pit blacks against gays?

Oh well obviously only one minority group can advance at a time. I guess Black people will need to wait until 2025 or something for anyone to take another look at that whole racism thing.
