CNN reports 27 killed. And the first wing nut blames it on schools being a gun free zone making kids sitting ducks...

ABCNewsThe massacre involved two gunmen and prompted the town of Newtown to lock down all of its schools and draw SWAT teams to the school, authorities said today.

One shooter is dead and a manhunt is on for a second gunman.

What is the common thread between all of these shootings? Why are these (physically) healthy young men doing this? Yeah it's tough transitioning from teenager to adult. There's a lot of angst - I went through it too. But how can a seemingly normal person commit this type of violence in a theater, a mall, and now a freaking elementary school? Just awful.

They are mentally unbalanced more than likely. If they don't kill themselves they will probably plead insanity.

waterloonicetop saidYoung guys getting laid a lot just dont do this kind of stuff...there should be some sort of government outlet provided to get fucked....(in a good way for once)

I don't know about that. I'm sure Ted Bundy as handsome as he was getting some tang and he did what he did. And Charles Manson got sex I'm sure and he was a monster. Lack of bussy or pussy does not a killer make or I would of gone postal long ago.

My thoughts exactly! As gay men we often experienced considerable trauma during our school years but would never consider taking such action to be justified behaviour.

The second suspect is the dead gunman's brother. Media reports are unclear as to whether he was armed or is suspected as a "second gunman."

ABC NewsAmong the dead was the gunman's mother, found in the school, sources told ABC News.

    Also, via CNN:

CNNIt appears that another member of the alleged shooter's family is dead. A senior law enforcement official familiar with the investigation says a brother of the alleged shooter was found dead in a home searched in Hoboken, New Jersey. We already knew Ryan Lanza's mother was found dead in the elementary school.

EDIT: Another correction, as it appears Ryan is the one being questioned (not a suspect), while his brother Adam is, as far as I can tell, the deceased shooter.

Someone can help me with this question. The right to bear arms is one thing... but where, expressly, is the constitutional right to don bulletproof vests and other bulletproof armor? If that's not a right covered under the Second Amendment, then what is it covered under? Might as well let people buy tanks if we're going down that road of "defending" ourselves.

EDIT: This thought came up when the "I am the shooter" fool over in Clackamas County Oregon decided to play dress-up earlier this week, only amplified now that we've got this incident as a bookend.

They are unbalanced for sure... But these guys had opportunities that most people in the world aren't born with. We've all had dark thoughts and bad days - especially in the lgbt community as ozgreenguy mentioned in his reply. To throw away your life and cause this much trauma - it offends me in so many ways.

Our society is so rich - we are allowed to live in our heads and detach from the rest of society. These guys probably needed to get laid. They needed to get pulled out of their fantasy gun dreams and volunteer with people born with less opportunity. < steps off soapbox >

Just a bad onion that won't stop unpeeling.

In Hoboken NJ, the idiot's father is allegedly (and, at least) one of the bodies recovered.

And his girlfriend, and a friend of hers, are still missing.

Are you *%#@ing kidding me. I was talking to my brother about this a few minutes ago, the weird thing is the pros outweighed the cons when it came to carrying on with the shooting. I'd love to hear his thought process behind it all.

I was looking up stuff about John lennon's shooting, the guy that did it explained it was because he wanted game- but regretted it later. Some people have his (unhealthy) dependency on.. Happiness? Off of other people. And then this sort of stuff happens.

Don't get me wrong I'd think my happiness is a little dependent on others in a sense too, simply cause life's that much better when I spend it with people versus being on my own. But even that has its limits, and It moreso enhances my existing good mood versus being the only factor

    Sad day.

    I'm hearing that, too:

I'm thinking it's best I just let the PD's sort all this out until they can get a consistent narrative out via the clearly confused media. In the meantime, condolences to the families of the victims.
