Original Star Trek actor George Takei married his longtime partner, Brad Altman, on Sunday evening in downtown Los Angeles.

The ceremony took place at the Japanese American National Museum and approximately 200 friends and family attended, including Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy. Fellow Trekkies Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols served as best man and matron of honor, respectively.

The ceremony featured Scottish bagpipes and was officiated by a Mexican-American Buddhist minister. The husbands exchanged Native American turquoise and silver rings, and are rumored to be spending their honeymoon in Argentina and Peru.

Takei, 71, and Altman, 54, have been together for 21 years and were among the first to obtain a same-sex marriage license in West Hollywood in June.

They began planning the nuptials in May when the California Supreme Court declared the state's ban on gay marriage unconstitutional.

I'm glad some of George's "Star Trek" co stars participated in the ceremony.
I think it shows the kind of acceptance that one would hope... and serves
to show others who might question...

Indeed.. George Takei and Nichols/Koenig are really showing themselves to be amazing people in their later years with all the cameos and organizations they're involved with.

James Doohan (Scotty) woulda probably protested the ceremony tho.. I heard he was quite the homophobe.

Btw.. I highly recommend (available on iTunes) George Takei's autobiography called "To the Stars". It's AMAZING to listen to (book on 'tape').

Sulu's no longer solo!

I have a friend who got to go. I have no idea why he brought his partner and not me -- I'll need to find out how it went.

Congratulations Sulu! He was always one of my favorite characters on the original Star Trek series and the movies that followed.
