According to research by UCLA biology professor Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, binging on soda, candy and sugary snacks for as little as six weeks may reduce brain function. The study, which was conducted on rats, is the first to show that a diet high in fructose slows the brain, which hampers memory and learning.

sugars actually feed toxins, yeasts and fungus already in our digestive tracks

an increase of these toxins and fungal growths actually cause a list of illnesses and conditions a mile long, even cancers

think: probiotics and high alkaline foods

for some reasons thank goodness I'm not a sugar addict and second my parents are diabetic, so lots of less sugary stuff around since growing up and there are bunch of health freaks around in the family, only once awhile I love my Ice-cream and hot chocolate cake ! icon_redface.gif

So, I'll eat lots of apples, bananas, oranges and many fruits if that is so... I'll even eat dessert... drink a cup of ginseng once I felt brain drain and eat peanuts like wall nuts and almonds and eat meat and milk products... lol!

Well, what is important is from time to time, exercise the brain with readings and memorizations and don't make things routinary and stagnant.

What! That does not explain how my friend maintains a 4.0 GPA in college and is almost done with his Ph. D. He has one of the worst diets I have ever witnessed. Pizza, junk food and soda pop sustain him....icon_eek.gif

A study of cognitive functions on rats makes about as much sense as a study of piano strings on a violin.

I think Fernando Gomes-Pinilla had too much sugar and stuff already.

I grew up in that circumstance and all that did for me was create an early addiction to artificial sweeteners.

4.0's don't really mean anything. I went to school with the absolute biggest stoner I have ever met (and knew little about him except he was a huge stoner and partier). Then graduation comes along and I see him up on stage accepting a national award for Psychology studies along with his flawless 4.0 GPA.

Fructose is bad?! Guess that means no more fruit for me!

Seriously people, think a little critically here...

I don't know 'bout the soda but everyone knows that deep dish pizza is the food of champions.

Deep dish pies! That explains his genius level intellect.

I read an article about this about a year ago I think, in which it also said that exercise boosts cognitive function and memory. I think the study juxtaposed different rat groups - some of them eating sugary stuff, others being put on a physical regimen, others being allowed to be fatasses.....I sound so scientific right now, I know. ;-)
