    Who is to Blame?

    Economic crisis
= poor people. They were the ones that took out dodgy mortgages in the first place. It's their fault that the banking system went into meltdown. How greedy and selfish of them to think they could afford their own house!

Uncompetitive workforce and outsourcing jobs from the Western world = poor people. Can you believe them? Demanding stuff like paid overtime, rights to healthcare and pay increases? A future for their children?

Western businesses simply don't have the money for all of that. I mean once the execs are paid millions and wined and dined , there's no money left for workers, so it's off to China or India we (the company) go!

American/Australian businesses would be in a lot better shape if the workers would just shut up and accept their conditions.

Budget in crisis = poor people. Once again, poor people have overstepped their bounds by elected Obama again who wants to offer them a chance a a decent education and some level of healthcare. Who do they think they are?

    Environmental Destruction and Global Warming
= you guessed it. It's because they're chopping down all the jungles and forests so they can grow food to eat and have something to sell. Not that we in rich, Western countries don't have technology that we could provide them for alternative fuel sources, it's better to keep that to ourselves and turn our focus to demonising them instead.

Am I the only one who is sick of these tired arguments?

I'm very disappointed at the lack of response - then again your post isn't compatible with the hedonism and narcissism that abounds in the RJ forums. You should know now its all about me me me and not those pesky poor 'other' people!

Haha I knew you'd be around to comment on this thread.

You're on the money with your comment.

Apparently this little thread couldn't steal the thunder from 'Which type of store is the guy above you?'.

It's better to focus on the important things in live like superficial consumerism than ending the demonisation of the vulnerable.

You know it's their own fault anyway. Poor people are where they are because they're lazy.(have heard people say that very line. No improv required!)

If they had a real work ethic they would make something of themselves because as you know manual labour such as cleaning all day is such a breeze!

Well I immediately knew it was a joke. I don't think a lot of people care though...

You do know that we are going to soon be accused of being 'butthurt'icon_lol.gif

Funny thing is without those poor people - the non-poor people would be poor themselves. The upper eschalons will stop at nothing to live in luxury at the expense of the majority and the earth - how dare anyone stop them!

The Rich are in charge, so blame the Poor!

Mitt Romney, Gina Rinehart and Queen Carlotta would approve of this message.

Sorry are you suggesting that Mitt and Gina aren't champions of the poor?

Mitt is the most down to earth, blue collar working man around.

And Gina with her opposition to taxing the mineral boom here . A tax coincidently that won't even recuperate the 13 billion dollar industry subsidy..

    She's basically a modern Gandhi ..

Self-loathing poor people, how is that any different from a self-hating gay person, both oppose their own interests and defend those who oppress them. That's why so-called "fiscal conservatism" is no different from social conservatism, they both are oppressive in their own way....

Nobody blames the poor for taking out loans they couldn't afford. The blame is on Congress for ordering that banks lower their lending standards which created a boom and then a bust.

    Thank you for your comment.

This post, however, doesn't refer to self loathing poor people, but instead on how poor people are demonised by the media and certain uberwealthy companies and individuals.

There are loads of examples of this:

Ex.. Dumping subsidised US and European food into poor countries and then complaining when they raise the issue with the WTO. Agriculture is a major emploer in the developing world and local farmers can not compete with the dumped food. Poor countrie should instead be 'grateful' for it.

The references to Mitt and Gina are completely tongue in cheek.

They should all be in prison. We know that Mitt lied under oath, and Rinehart's just deplorable.

Poor people don't choose to be poor.
Everybody wants, pretty much, the same things: a good job, and enough money to pay the bills, and a little extra.

Union pay and benefits = low unemployment and a booming economy and a lower crime rate.

Slave labor (mostly overseas) = the mess we're in, now.

The Wall Street bankers, who gambled away the security of our banking system, should be in jail.

The banks that approved home loans for people they knew could not afford to make the payments on those loans, should be out of business.

Uh, yes they did and they continue to lay the blame on them. I've read and seen it in the media, and even by you and your cohorts on this forum.

    Riddles,

The ag subsidies comment and the Mitt and Gina comment are two seperate comments..
