So GAMrican, me, and a few others who want to help will be meeting in early January to organize another get-together. Because of the popularity of the last one, and constructive comments, and so many more who are interested in coming, I would love to garner some ideas. Something active yet also with cocktails and food. Maybe two venues. Remember this will be in winter, maybe like late January so we have more time to organize.

    Here's the form

I wish that I could join you guys. But I cannot afford airfare. It would be great to meet realjocks from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Yay! This is such a great idea, thanks for getting this started.
Something to look forward to in January!
    Just submitted my ideas!
I am going to be studying for a certification exam so I will have limited bandwidth for assisting in organizing but am happy to help however I can!

What about Go Kart Racing, we can devise different teams and compete...there is usually some food inside the complex.

The closest one would be in Burlingame, close to the folks that live in the city.

I actually think the flaw of the last meet up for me was the balance of activity and intimacy. On one hand I think activity, rather than just simply meeting up for drinks is great and helps with mixing us up.. I didn't really get to have conversations with people and bond with you guys until we met at the straight hipster bar (Moms?) and we were sitting around talking and switching conversation partners constantly.

So i filled out the form and suggested that we wait for a decent sunny day (January should birth us a few) and do a picnic in Golden gate park.. We volunteer food..maybe BBQ?...drinks and activities like games and light fun sports while huddled together somewhere in the Picnic friendly portion of the park with benches and tables, family reunion style. I personally can see that drawing more people and being a bit more broad and still activity driven. We can come up with tons of interactive games and sports.. Volleyball...Guess who is on my back game... stuff like that. Lets even do the dorky Potato sack race.

The only thing is the weather.. but some attention to forecasts should be able to help us with that.

Jack I had the same thoughts about a GGPark picnic/BBQ.
The only issue is the weather and planning for it because the weather is so incredibly unpredictable Dec-Feb and even if it's a sunny day there is a greater probability of the park being really muddy than not just because winter is so wet.

I think the park would be a great springtime activity and would happily help organize something like that, but even in the spring we will want come up with a contingency plan if the weather sucks.

Another thing to keep in mind when suggesting activities or locations is how accessible it is to public transportation.

A lot of guys in SF don't have cars or will be traveling from somewhere else for the meetup. So anything outside of the city or not easily accessible via public transportation could be a problem for a lot of guys.

Not meant to be a deterrent, just food for thought. icon_biggrin.gif

    Ooo! I like this idea.

@uombroca - Can you do some recon and find out the costs, and any considerations regarding "large parties"?

Yeah..Burlingame will be a bitch to get to unless i'm with someone with a car. You'll get less people.. there will be annoying ride shares, which almost never workout or will become awkward. I'd rather be able to get somewhere and leave on my own. And Bart is a pain in the ass.

@J$ - Can you do some recon on how we would go about booking space in the park?

In doing research it seems that we would need to reserve 6 months prior to our event. So perhaps we should start planning the summer Nor Cal RJ meet up. Prices are reasonable..with the premium sites like the Stowlake Picnic area or the Pioneer Log cabin area being 90 dollars for a picnic of 51 to 100 people. There are bathrooms and lots of land and field to set up games and stuff. So now.. i think that it's definitely best to hold this off until summer.. but maybe in tandem with planing for the late Jan meet up..we start collaborating for Summer... and maybe get a bigger crowd going.http://216.121.125.82/docs/FNPPicnicFlyer.pdf

I think doing maybe just a meetup for drinks and pinball or something in January is nice. Its the perfect time after the holidays for a pick-me-up. Also it just keeps the momentum going. Every meetup doesnt have to be epic in scope....Then, talk it up at the meetup and plan for a summer blow-out in the park. I love that idea!!!

I have no real suggestions since I'm not familiar with the venues in the Bay area. But I have to agree with Jack. I prefer an activity or venue where we can all get some face time and conversation. Bowling was cool, but guys were focused on bowling. And the bar was ok, but we were staggered all over the place.

I was gonna suggest archery, but I don't know of any archery venues in SF...and the venues that I do know of can only accommodate so many people at once.

OK, so SlickCalifornia suggested ice skating in Yerba Buena, then we could all go for drinks after as a winter activity, then still have a summer park blow out?

I think that sounds like a great idea!!!!

Sure no problem, I will be in the area this week and can stop by and get prices, discounts, and what sort of food they provide and if they have drinks or not.
