" Mitt Romney repeated frequently during his campaign. He called on the White House to sell off its stake last summer, though at that point GM was trading as low as $18.72 a share. At that price, the government would have received about $1.5 billion less than it will now get "

Romney wanted to sell at a GREATER LO$$.
Good for us that we didn't get the "businessman" !

Related point: Any idea of the cost if we had allowed GM to have gone bankrupt ?

Somehow, the cost - the jobs lost in this and in and related industries - never seems to matter to conservatives.

I politely asked you in an email "WTF?".

That was after the third time you made this type of comment. You seem to take offense at my use of CAPS. I suggest you cease your nonsense and focus on your own comments.

Then perhaps you'll answer me - how great would have the harm to the economy been if this business, and all related and downstream businesses, had ended?

Yes, GM did receive bankruptcy protection. But because of Obama, millions of jobs at GM, related businesses, and businesses that depend on GM employees' spending, were saved. Romney wanted to let GM die, and all those jobs with it. (This despite the fact that Romney got Bain a sweet federal bailout deal, too.)

Bullshit. Same structured BK. Romeny's plan is pretty much what happened with some differences in DIP financing guarantees and who got screwed and who got favoured (UAW) in the BK.

Wrong person to ask. I'm very much a fan of the Detroit big three and wanted to do whatever it took to help them get back on their feet.

Btw, what do you have in your driveway? Me, all GM.

I'm hugely opposed to foreign ownership, but some say it would have happened with little impact.

No, that is not what the article says. It says that a) foreign companies would probably have bought pieces of it (your article uses a lot of "surely" and "might" and "possible" and "could have" and "almost certainly" - icon_rolleyes.gif ).

So, if this had happened, we would a) have had foreign ownership, which you don't like and would have transferred profits out of the US, and you know darn well it also would have led to massive cutbacks as the foreign companies (logically) picked and chose what they wanted to own, carving up bits and pieces of GM, which downstream from the companies would have impacted supply shops, service, etc - ie, jobs and money for Americans.

So, the GOP line on this is: let an American institution fail, with all the cost to jobs and local ownership, but by one true Christian God don't ever stop paying subsides to highly profitable and successful energy companies.

    Please.

    Democrats won the election! Yay!

I love hearing the Conservapussies® moan and bitch!

    Four More Years! Hahahaha!

Wouldn't it be something else if Alito, Scalia, and Thomas gave up the ghost? Predictions have it that the SCOTUS may shift Liberal during Obama's second term. Oh the hilarity of Roberts having to preside over a Liberal leaning court??? Hahahaha! Yay!

Again, as I've said consistently all the time, every time, to everyone since 2009, I hugely supported this, not only with words, but my wallet.

    Btw, what's in your driveway?

Was your changing the subject (or trying to, badly) admitting that the GOP line on this is incomprehensible and that Obama did the right thing?

Bullshit to you too. Romney's "plan" (really?), excluded bailouts for GM, which meant death for GM and millions of jobs along with it. Meanwhile Romney, the hypocrite, negotiated loan guarantees for Bain that he KNEW would end up costing the US taxpayer millions while protecting his and other Bain executives' bonuses. That IS a bailout.

Even Republicans need to be grateful that Mitt is nowhere near the presidency.

Still swearing I see. I care because lower unemployment in the US is a good thing. Duh. And Romney had it wrong on GM and was a hypocrite. Glad he lost.

BTW, I own a Taurus as if it's any of your business.

It's kind of cool to see TehFreedom flounder around so desperately that he has to change the subject. We all know he's an intelligent guy, and it must suck to have to admit that your party and your candidate were both hypocritical and wanted to hurt the country, as long as it helped them make money and harm their political opponents.
