I rely on a young german in Fla to tell me things, but he isnt online.

I dont want the shuffle feature to bring up Bach while I am working out. I understand "playlists" are how you segregate music on an ipod. But I cant figure out how they are created.

    You use iTunes.

Plug your Nano into your computer.

    Open iTunes

    Create your playlist

    Save

Oh the little gizmo is great! ...Every song is one that you like. ...It really keeps me psyched during a workout ....I STRODE for over an hour on my elliptical the other evening cuz I was having such a good time.

And the shuffle feature is great....keeps things fresh. ...However, yesterday it shuffled from Crimson and Clover to How Much Is That Doggie In The Window* ... icon_eek.gif ... my two hemispheres did a belly bump and fell back laughing!!!!

*I like Patti Page, so STFU! ... icon_evil.gif

Thanks. ..That's it. ....I think it depends where you are in itunes as to what the menus say. I.E., I checked the menus and dont remember seeing New Playlist. ...But I could be wrong and dont really much care checking my hypothesis out.

Now, why are there little checkmarks in front of the song titles? ...Is there a way to clear all of them? Would I want to do that?

take the adapter and plug into USB port. your computer should recognize it and open a new spot in your menu on the side. then i guess you drag it over.

Ok, I was afraid to unplug the cord because I couldnt find the eject/disconnent hardware icon on the status. But now I see it was disconnected somehow. ....Now that it is connected again, there is a sync button on itunes.

Oh fuck! ...now the ipod is just saying "connected" and the menu spot on the wheel doesnt do anything....wonder what I did now. ... icon_evil.gif

After creating your playlist on Itunes (which should be empty since u just created it)...you clikc on MUSIC on I-tunes and it will take u to where all you music is. (no need to connect you Ipod becaus the music is already saved on i-tunes and your PC)

When you find the song that you want on you playlist, right click on it and u'll see an option to add that particular song to you new playlist. You click that option and the song gets added. Keep doing that for every song u want on the playlist.

Once you're done adding songs, u can connect you ipod and it'll update by itself.

When u use your ipod, go to the PLAYLIST option and the new playlist should show up.

To create a playlist from scratch, you can eihter select the option from FILE of rightclick the PLAYLISTS section on the left side of you I-Tunes...the when you click CREATE NEW PLAYLIST, your new lise will show up as "NEW PLAYLIST"...u can rename it later if u like. One the new playlist has been created, u can add songs as mentioned in my last post.

    Cas,

You can also set the playlist to shuffle the songs so you don't get tired of listening to the songs in same order each time. But, if there are songs that go together, e.g. Queen's "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions" (you mentioned Bach for your example) there's a way of linking them together, and I believe you set them as part of a "compilation," which you would do within each song's settings. Other people could probably weigh in on this as I haven't done that yet, but I do have some songs I'd prefer to play together as intended.

right click on the song and click on Get Info. under the info tab there is a box at the bottom to check for part of a compilation.

When you computer and ipod are connected. You should see the ipod's name connected on the left side menu screen. You can click on it, and it will open up, and you can set setting's on what music and play lists you want to automatically synce.

And while on the run, you can go through your songs on your ipod, and scroll on the song you want and hold down the middle button until you see the song "flash" and it will put it into your "on the go" play list.

This week, I've been using the "genius" playlist feature, which sometimes works pretty well and adds to the total laziness quotient around here.

Just highlight a song in iTunes and click on the genius button (looks like a 1950's atom symbol.) In about two seconds, it assembles a 25-song playlist of other songs "that go together" with the one you highlighted. (And of course, on the right side of the screen, they suggest a few more tunes that you can buy to go with.) Click save, sync, go.

I can't figure out exactly what criteria it uses to decide that those songs "go together," although genre and year of release appear to figure in. Sometimes there's a duck in the middle of the list, and sometimes I just hit the button a few times to get a different mix that looks better. (The first time you do this, it uploads a summary of your library to the mother ship - if you've got a big library, this can take a while.)
