I maybe a bit late to this news, i am now surrounded by LA Fitness chains, more locales to chose from is a good thing cause I can use any. However, never been to a Bally's before so i decided to pop into one, now LA Fitness.

OMG, no wonder they went bankrupt, the facilities were deplorable!!, once i saw the lockeroom and the pool area at this certain west side locale, i immediately left and went to a regular LA Fitness, non Bally's. I told the guy at the counter i wasnt comfortable and why i was leaving. Apparently, ALL old Bally's location in southern cal are going to be remodeled, one by one, there are already two major locations that i know of that are currently closed and are underway. Not only did LA Fit spend $153-million to buy it, they prob have to spend another $50 mil to remodel the prime locations.

I feel bad for lifetime member people of Bally's, they got ripped off big time. While the owners were taking everyones money, the chain didnt put any money into upkeep to their facilities. Some Bally members have filed suit against LA Fit for not honoring or switching contracts, what a mess. I cant wait to see the new Hollywood II location remodel, big place.

Anybody here a ex- Bally's member?

I am a former lifetime membership member of Bally's. I am now a lifetime member to LA Fitness. They accepted my contract without any hassles. The LA Fitness that I am a member at is a new building with a basketball court, pool, racquetball court. The closest Bally's to me had none of these things and was in an old decaying building. The equipment was always breaking down. I am actually very happy with the buy out!! icon_biggrin.gif

Bally's is trashy. I like Lifetime much better, but I think my next gym membership will be at one of the new low-cost chains that've been sprouting up everywhere. I really don't need the amenities of a big gym. I think a properly equipped weight room will suffice.

When i picked a gym, i was never interested in Bally's even though they had more locations in LA. LA Fitness was a small chain at least back 10 yrs ago when i joined. The facilities were nice and they kept modernizing so i stayed with them. I was shocked to say the least at the condition of an old Bally's gym, if LA Fitness keeps to their original customer service and upkeep, you should be happy with them, althoug i did read that trying to cancel a membership with them is difficult, you have to get it in writing

Going to Anytime. You get a key so you can literally go, anytime.

I love mine in STC. It's big, has more than enough equipment, and is NEVER crowded. Ever. I have never had to wait for a machine.

Not sure how the ones closer to Minny are though. The one in Eden Prairie is small and shitastic...

Def check it out though. icon_smile.gif

The only time I saw a Bally's was in Toronto about 10 years ago... it was very nice.. sounds unfortunate that they went downhill, but nothing stays the same. We have to reevaluate our gyms occasionally to see if we are getting our monies worth and assess whether management are really keeping the faciliites under repair and making improvements.

This may have been the attitude of the Bally's owners and why they didnt care about their facilities and let them go to shit, maybe because many str8 people also didnt care about how their gym looked, ive seen gay bathhouses that look better kept than these gyms

Everything, from old style dented rusted metal lockers, grime buildup in grout, old machines, ripped material on machine seats and mats, old barbells, tile floor and shower cracking, missing shower heads, shower doors caked with soap scum, unpainted walls, pool surround cracking and missing tiles, non working jacuzzi, the whole place was nasty like you could get a skin or eye infection if you touched the wrong surface. I would have left Bally's if I were a paying customer and I had facilities like this. Your membership pays partly to the upkeep.

I had a company discount to Bally's in Alexandria, VA when I lived in DC. It was terrible. Smelled like urine, machines were broken, limited weight machines and it didn't feel safe.
