Only when one can't use facts to make a point, and has to resort to name calling, like "stupid," "moron," "dumb," "nuts," "Nazi," "fascist," "wacko," etc. icon_biggrin.gif

I disagree. It might make for an unpleasant discussion, but the namecaller isn't necessarily a crybaby. Additionally, I think it's sometimes completely necessary to let an opponent know how stupid he or she is, because sometimes they completely forget and think they're actually making points.

(Speaking of Grudges, don't you think that movie with Sarah Michelle Gellar was stupid? That little creepy kid meowing like a cat and the little girl with the hair. I watched the original movie in Japanese and was all like, WTF?)

I'm with guitarboy. When 10 of the 12 forum posts listed on the home page are about Sarah Palin, this has officially become Real Politico instead of Real Jock. There are appropriate political sites for these discussions and I don't feel this site is one of them. Frankly, having this site co-opted by people with obvious political agendas makes me wish I hadn't become a Supporter.

YES, we get it - you hate Sarah Palin.
YES, we get it - you think Obama walks on water (or "is" Jesus).
YES, we get it - you'll quote any source as reputable as a high school newspaper to "prove" your point.

I'm an undecided voter, but the dialog on here has been so repugnant, it oftens pushes me to the opposite side of the hysterical poster's argument.

That said, I'm all for free speech. If we HAVE to be endlessly exposed to the whining and endless bitching about either party, I think it should be under its own forum heading so those with no interest in a few people's political opinions (stated and rehashed ad infinitum) can more easily avoid them.

At best, the political discussion on this site has been peurile and pointless often degenerating into "you're a moron" and "no, you are". For folks interested in politics, I'd suggest searching news or political sites for 'enlightenment' because you sure won't find any here.

I agree with McGay...and I think that is one of the fundamental problems in society today. One sees something, one doesn't like it, one starts bitching, freedoms are suppressed. If someone doesn't like the political postings, skip them. if you don't want to discuss politics, don't. Be and let others be.

I participate in the political threads a lot, though not as often as I used to. All I can say is, only eight more weeks of the noise until election day. Hang in there guys.

For real, just make one thread and stick to it. Don't make numerous ones, one after the other. I swear, it's like every other post on here has something to do with politics.

Perhaps the RJ folks should create a special election-season forum specifically for political threads. Then they could create another for LOLcat threads.

Maybe not a crybaby, but fairly immature in debating skills. Telling someone that they are stupid is appropriate in a mature argument? Really? You actually think that someone that disagrees with you is going to come around to your way of thinking just by telling them that you think that they are stupid? Really? icon_rolleyes.gif

Sorry, not me. I value educated, factual responses. When someone I am debating resorts to name calling I immediately know that I have won, because they have run out of ideas.

Yeah, I agree with this sentiment. A Forum area for political discussions (and a limit to the number that show up on the home page upon being commented on recently - kinda like how the sexually explicit ones don't show up there). Political discussions are no problem, but I agree that the majority of them seem to be about 90% mudslinging and 10% factually based posts and opinions. And the 10% quickly get buried and ignored by the mudslingers.

And yes, if we are put off by the political threads, obviously we can just ignore them. It would just be nice to see less of them on the front page, so we can easily find the non-political discussions. Well, hopefully the people that have been migrating away from RJ will come back after Nov. 4th.
