Are these really sex crimes? Did they hurt anyone?

You can vote on the question, A good use of law enforcement resources? The overwelming answer is NO, then why spend tax payers money for this nonsense, really, a vice unit requirement to catch men jacking off? your own car is off limits too?

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/12/fred-willard-nick-stahl-arrested-by-same-lapd-vice-unit.html

As gay men, are we next to be targeted by the LAPD? LA is stepping backwards and is a bit out of line in its free thinking, unlike San Francisco, is the SFPD targeting public adult venues such as adult movies theaters and adult video stores with private booths hoping to catch someone in the act? Is this how George Micheal got his reputation? There used to be one very cruisy spot on Santa Monica blvd behind a certain bar, i think Eddie Murphy got caught there once, LAPD and the parking authority have all but shut any activity from taking place. The LA bathhouses are just too expensive now for just quickies. Why all this so called "crackdown", even the famous site http://www.cruisingforsex.com/ is now "sign up", never was like that before, In LA, I would be careful using CFS website. What is the LAPD goal here? It makes me wonder if they are forcing people looking for quickies onto the hook up/dating sites which these sites dont work either or make it difficult just meeting someone. In my opinion, these two actors have done nothing wrong except be victims of an overjealous police department, wasting valuable resources, crime is down in LA, nothing better to do i guess, what do you think?

for those of you who didnt know what the website crusing for sex was

anonymous guys with knowledge or experience posted places around the country where you can cruise and hook up in public places...examples.. parks, malls, universites, alleys, beaches, bars, clubhouses, bathrooms..etc, the term "glory hole" got its start from this website. It now appears to be just a hook up site between members, much like the rest.

Shame that this way of meeting has been under severe attack by law enforcement thoughout the US. San Francisco maybe one of the last cities that still believe in the freedom to express individuality. Although banning the public nudity thing maybe a precursor to banning public sex their too

America still has a uptight problem with nudity. Why law enforcement is at it, why dont they ban and ticket people for public displays of affection? Isnt this a form of public sex?

I just think more of our freedoms are under attack in this country

I thought the Nick Stahl thing was ridiculous. He was jacking off in a booth inside of an establishment you have to be 18 to enter...really don't know who he is hurting besides the poor squeegee boy

Public space is still public. It is used by many people, including straights, catholics, possibly children. Cruising is fine in public, but full on oral and anal is still illegal. Keep it to the bedroom or somewhere where it's acceptable (i.e. bathhouses/club back rooms etc.).

As to the Nick Stahl, I do think he was within his private space to do what he pleases

well that article provided some interesting insights, apparently it is illegal to masturbate in those booths after all.

But I have heard in other articles that masturbating in a men's room stall is legal because it is a bathroom and the expectation is that any actions in there are private.

Just wondering why you need to hook up in public in the first place...?
