Please! All of us know what kind of talk and language goes on the locker room. Torri simply perpetuates a double standard and does not want to have to clean up his language. While he is entitled to his beliefs, he doesn't get to and shouldn't be given the power or right to dictate who can and can not be themselves on the team.

Agreed! It's really unfortunate how some athletes use religion to hide behind what they really want to say.

Nice rebuttal story in the LA Times regarding these comments:

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-sports-homophobia-20121230,0,5283191.story

I'll be sure to be in attendance to boo Torri Hunter when the Tigers play the Rays in 2013. The Rays had some fleeting interest in signing him (too much money) and I'm glad they passed. We did get Yuniel Escobar who was slapped on the hand by MLB for a homophobic slur on his eye black last season.

Given Hunter's age and the slow pace of change in baseball, he has precious little to worry about. Hopefully the day will come soon when this is no longer an issue.

In the meantime, he might want to let Jesus know those whores and tax collectors he was hanging out with back in the day was not a very Christian thing to do. icon_rolleyes.gif

Christ hung out with Mary Magdalene ( a whore) and a tax collector (Matthew), so hanging out with them is by definition a VERY christian thing to do. icon_biggrin.gif

Great article in the Los Angeles Times, we have come a long way and obviously have a long way to go. Everyone should see the videos "You Can Play", if a player can play the game well, who cares what his/her orientation is. Mr. Hunter should remember that if it wasn't for a very brave Jackie Robinson he would not be able to be on the team playing a game that pays him so well.

He was signed as a FA this offseason by Le Tigres. He has spent the remainder of his career with the Angels.

He actually played most of his career in Minnesota before going to the Angels. He was signed this off season by the Tigers. I am very disappointed in his comments and now wish the Tigers did not sign him!!

On a point of order, there are some interesting studies that suggest Mary Magdalene's reputation as a whore was a fabrication of the early Church, at a time hundreds of years later when bishops were reinventing Christianity into the more paternalistic and male-dominated religion we know today.

Mary may have originally enjoyed a status closer to that of an Apostle, and some speculate she may have been the wife of Jesus, marriage being required of a Rabbi at that time. But that was suppressed by the early Church, as were writings attributed to her. A human wife was inconsistent with the Son of God image the Church was beginning to create.

Pffft! Kansas City is my favorite AL team ... even though they have a cabal of idiots running the front office.

Have fun with Wil Myers. He's gonna be a good one.

I'm not going to read the article because it's about sports...

But you'd think if they let a woman on the team, she'd be a little more at peace with them letting a gay guy on the team. Maybe she doesn't like the competition for male attention.

Thanks and I can't wait to see Wil Myers in the outfield--hopefully Opening Day.He and Longoria are going to take us to the World Series a few times.

Enjoy James Shields before he bolts for a bigger contract. I have to let you know he is not "all that." I have seen him pitch in person and on TV many times. The guy will give you 6 or 7 innings, but he has bases-loaded situations in the early innings all the time and gives up a lot of first inning runs. Wade Davis is the key for KC's success going forward. This guy is REAL good and hated to see him go in the trade (wish they would have suckered the Royals into taking Jeff Niemann instead). Also, I'm anxious to see Jake Odorizzi pitch--he and Wil are a pair of hotties!
