A lot of people have forgotten that the earliest forms of gun control in America were aimed at disarming blacks and other racial and ethnic minorities before the civil war. And for those who claim that restricting guns is the best answer, let's not forget that it took 20 minutes for "first responders" to arrive at Sandy Hook.

Given that a tactical response is required, what is the ideal response time in a little town to a nut case on the rampage with a combat weapon and a year's supply of ammo? 20 minutes sounds pretty good to me.

The response time is both an issue and it isn't. After all, what of the victims in the meantime? The US isn't going to be gun-free. And in gun-free zones it isn't going to be the "good guys" who have guns. There isn't a simple solution...
