I remember awhile back this discussion came up somewhere...

but, for the past 15 years or so I've been allergic to cats. I could only stand in a person's house with a cat for 30 minutes to an hour before I would start getting stuffy...but then it would end up getting so bad I'd have to leave my date's home leaving them feeling embarrassed for making me sick.

Well, long story short I adopted a Black kitty like 2 months ago. The first couple weeks were awful. My nose was fucked up every morning popping benadryl every 4 hours all day long. He would scratch me and my skin would get welts around where he scratched.

As time went on I got more and more used to it and I have a whole pack of benadryl (it's actually the store brand stuff) that I haven't even finished yet. He sleeps right under my nose every night and it doesn't even phase me. So somehow, I managed to accustom myself to him and rid myself of cat allergies. But...I still have not gone to anyone's house yet who haves cats to see if I'm truly cured.

BTW, this is not to say all life-threatenin allergies should be faced head on like this. You could die.

Yayyyy! That's great news! What you went through is called desensitization or more formally, allergen immunotherapy. It's actually one of the treatment options for people with allergies! icon_biggrin.gif Congrats!

I sort of did it without thinking about it. I had no idea that my allergies would disappear...But my parents told me they had similar reactions that went away eventually. I didn't think mine would because EVERY time I got around a cat my senses would go off. But I guess you have to be around it 24/7 to build up immunity.

So having a cat doesn't make me look like a bottom? Does anyone have any weird stigmas about cats lol? I have always thought guys that had cats were lonely psychos and now look icon_redface.gif

Now that I've owned a puppy and a kitten...this is 10,000 times easier than a puppy. Chewing on CDs, really? Pooping all over the bedroom, really?

    I'm a lonely psycho and I don't have a cat.
