A buddy of mine and his wife are having their first child. They decided that they're not going to have a shower yet they created a gift registry and generically informed everybody via Facebook. Part of me is being ghetto and does not want to buy them anything if they aren't even going to attempt a shower. The other part of me is like just get them something crappy like a $40 gift card to Babies R Us. Is it ok for people to forgo the event and just hold their hand out asking for the gifts that usually accompany the party?

Lol no. Just because the parents are bad doesn't mean the baby will be.

Bad parents for not throwing a shower and expect people to shower them with gifts. Greedy if you ask me. Anyhow, a baby blanket is my favorite thing to get. Its thoughtful and appropriate.

No. It's douchey. The least the cheap fuckers can do is throw the gift bearers a party and put some of those little pastel colored mints in a textured glass dish. icon_neutral.gif

Get them a big package of diapers one size up from newborn. Everyone's gonna give them stuff for the little kiddo; they'll appreciate something for when he/she is a little bigger.
