It seems like religion is dying a slow death, but that it still has a profound impact on the gay community and our overall acceptance in society.

Gays would be a lot more accepted, and accepting of themselves, if it weren't for religion.

...I am ALWAYS suspicious of a NEW profile with no information in it, that asks a question on a sure fire hot topic that will fuel a flame-war....as their first post....I tend to think TROLL.....icon_rolleyes.gif

God has been around longer than the gays. I'm sure religion will keep on doing just fine in the future.

    Which god?

In other words, you are incorrect. Humans have been attracted to the same gender since way before the first deity was thought up.

I think people get faith and religion intertwined.

Faith in a deity of whatever case that might be is not the reason. It's when it's become organized and money starts being involved and rituals and practices that causes the problems.

A simple no strings attached belief in a greater being/creator/supernatural force hasn't been the problem. Consider the fact that native american religions believe that homosexuals are those who should be brought up and given special duties and honors as shamans and mediators between the sexes.

Furthermore, if Jesus (or a Christ figure) had been around today, he would look upon the gay community with open arms, compassion and acceptance. Back in those days, it was something that wasn't discussed or was something that was the most shameful thing - it was a very private thing I think and thus no opportunity to preach about it. Or if he did, it was subsequently removed by the homophobic interpretors and writers of the New Testament. People suck.

Which one? I know a Jesus who works at Dunkin Donuts, one at McDonald's, and in fact, one of my pizzas was delivered by Jesus.

Does this Jesus guy have multiple personalities combined with shape-shifting and job-shifting capabilities? icon_eek.gif

I don't need to be on my knees to do that! There must be some ulterior motive for me down there!

Sounds a bit like begging the question.

    1. Many animal species exhibit homosexuality, most of them predating humanity.
    2. Before humans, did animals worship God (since the fossil record shows that humans have only been on this planet for a few hundred-thousand years)?
    3. Humans don't need a god to have religion (look at, for instance, the Scientologists).
    4. Humans don't need a religion to have a god.

Ok, it's because you've been a bad boy and are tied up. Now you must struggle and flex and stuff so your new muscles can be groped and fondled and ejaculated upon.

What about the one in his side?

Then you could tell your friends "yeah I go to church...it never hurts to have a little Jesus on the side."

Yes it has. Before I had the balls to start speaking up for myself my sister's family in law said the worst things about the LGBT community. When I finally asked why it would be so horrible for one of their children to be gay I was told that it was against their faith. These people were identified christians, but hadn't gone to a church in their lives.

Faith, religion: I don't give a shit. I hate it all.

And the next cunt who tells me to stop being so bitter about it can fudge off. I've been fucked over by the Abrahamic religions/faiths more than any other historical, political, cultural, or government influence. In fact it's the only institution that I've been fucked over by.

I don't mean to challenge you or anything but there is a difference. Thats what I mean when I say that people get the two mixed up and religion muddles faith. Faith is what YOU believe in. What your family is saying is that it's against their RELIGION. They didn't come to the conclusion that gay is wrong on their own. It was that someone told them that and rather then make up their own mind, accepted it.

There's also a big difference between claiming something is "incorrect" when neither of us has the authority to make that statement. This is more about respect for beliefs than either of us trying to cram it into someone else's throat.

    Respect.

I rather dislike and take offense to the statement on their website, "Theists do not have a rational argument for the existence of God..."
    So untrue.

    So untrue.

How is that untrue? I think most of the theists here would argue that belief in God is an act of faith outside of evidence. The rational world requires proof, and for a believer no proof is necessary.

If you have evidence of God, cough it up.
