Hollywood has made some good products, but it generally produces worthless junk, that messes with people's minds and interferes with their self-worth. I'm very selective about what I view on screen, and generally find very little value with "stars" and their sad lifestyles.
So I'm pretty much ignoring the Oscars and their self-promotion propaganda machine.
    Otherwise, enjoy the Oscarsicon_smile.gif

Life of Pi was good for special effects, will probably see Lincoln next week, but I kinda like the name Frankenweenie, that would probably be my favourite, although not nominated in that category
. Zero Dark Thirty (dark horse)
This movie was boring and way too long
. Naomi Watts vs Jessica Chastain best actress
. Anne Hathaway (best supporting actress)
She is the only one of the major actors in Les Miserables that could sing.
. Hugh Jackman (prob. won't win) either Denzel or Daniel day Lewis will win
. Adele Skyfall (fuck yeah) !!!

Whoever wins the Oscars, I think is a bit of a joke. The whole show is commercialized and the awards are bought with big bucks. I knew a man in Mexico when I lived there that voted for the Oscars. He received all the movies nominated for awards but did not watch but a few. He did receive all the promotional material too. He was influenced by those materials. It is a combination of a popularity contest and a who has not received one yet, we feel sorry for you, awards show, show being the important word here.

Paul Thomas Anderson will win. They very rarely give oscars twice, especially to directors, it happend but its rare. Harvey Winestein is the King of scoring Oscar wins for pictures he's behind.. Life of Pi vs. Lincoln for best picture I happen to agree with this
. Zero Dark Thirty (dark horse)
. Naomi Watts vs Jessica Chastain best actress
. Anne Hathaway (best supporting actress)
. Hugh Jackman (prob. won't win) either Denzel or Daniel day Lewis will win
Joaquin Pheonix, Same reason as best directors
. Adele Skyfall (fuck yeah) !!!

Ang Lee won the Oscar for best director for BBM but BBM lost the BEST picture award to Crash.

I'm disappointed Bigelow and Affleck didn't get nominated as directors, but their movies got nods for Best Movie.

Honestly, I couldn't care less who wins. It's just an opportunity for celebrities to congratulate each other when in reality they're no better than the rest of us. At least host Seth MacFarlane is funny, though he's no Ricky Gervais (though who is?) when it comes to comedy.

Sorry but Lincoln was an utter snooze fest.

Best actor should be Tom Hollond from The Impossible...

    +1

It really should have been called "The Thirteenth Amendment" because that is what the entire plot was focused on.

I'll be rooting for Life of Pi but I'm sure Lincoln will win as the Academy always plays favorites to historical dramas.

Quvenzhane Wallis for Best Actress, she was absolutely incredible. She won't win, but should.

Sally Field for Best Supporting Actress, because, well, she's Sally F'in Field!

Otherwise, meh. I'll watch but not that invested this year.

Kathryn Bigelow won for Hurt Locker already, not too long ago. I doubt they will nominate her again. As far as Ben Affleck goes, I don't know, he's just like a pretty boy to me (making girls swoon is his forte), not so much of a director. The Oscars only nominates the heavy favorite directors, imho.

Even though Ang Lee won for best director (1st Asian/non-white to do so), I felt like the LGBT community was ROBBED in 2005 because of the Oscars *old homo-phobic white male voters*, They Voted for CRASH (Just an ordinary stupid race-themed Los Angeles movie over a Gay Brokeback romantic story between 2 cowboys). Fuck, when will a gay-themed film ever win a best picture? This is the exact same reason why so many celebs stayed in the closet, though it's better now, because they all want to have a lasting career in movies, make bank and not rock the boat. icon_eek.gif

I personally think Lincoln was overrated.

He partners with John Williams and Williams cunningly uses his music to make the audience feel an emotion instead of having the music reflect what the character may feel or relate it to something present in the film to try and create a connection between music and plot.

Moreover, Spielberg is a master of manipulation in terms of plot details and banal screenplays. The only film I think was creative was his A.I film. Others like Schindler's List and War Horse were just misconstrued or highly budgeted films to only influence the emotions of the audience members with the same rhetoric themes that are shown in every movie. There isn't much thought or value in his plots or screenplays, he uses the artistic visuals and sounds to supplant the wretched scripts and throw in a few big name actors.

I only applaud him on visuals and manipulation. However, he is lackluster in terms of meaningful or intelligent thinking films that include major philosophical themes or questions.

But...at least he isn't as dreadful as the major emotional manipulator, aka James Cameron or the trite self-pompous man who calls himself a director, Michael Bay - he needs to stick with the visual effects department.

Directors like Alfonso Cuaron and Stanley Krubrick are more well respected IMO.

    Well that's my rant...

Turn off the idiot box, and stop giving your money to Hollywood.

    Read. Books.

If you manage to find the time to read and waste money at the box office or via your cable provider, then read more books.

True, gay film or not BBM was the best made film that year. Wonderfully made. The acting, story, cinematography, and production design far superceded Crash. Crash was overacted by all of the actors.

"Searching for Sugar Man" would win in any other year that "How to Survive a Plague" isn't in it.

As I noted elsewhere, the Director snubs could easily pass for the Nominees!
