I'm planning on going to Puerto Rico for vacation for the 1st week in March 2013. I'm looking for a place I can just relax. I'll probably want to be in San Juan for a night or two, but otherwise I want to just go somewhere quiet. I've had a bunch of suggestions for Vieques, but have also heard good things about the eastern part of the island. Any recommendations? I'm not looking to go too expensive, and will probably also be renting a car so I can visit places.

    Thanks!

in '99, my all gay cruise ended in San Juan, there was one place i visited with my cabin mate, called Ocean Walk Guest House, since he had been there before, it was a gay friendly place with a small food grill stand, quiet, right facing the beach. I dont know if the place is still there but i did find this link
http://www.nileguide.com/destination/san-juan/hotels/ocean-walk-guest-house/478684, to the left of the guest house, you can see the tall downtown San Juan buildings like this picture, but further down dedc63d9de8c62d56be86a47f3eebca90b597778

Any B&B, Villa, Apt along Ocean Park Beach is prob the best beach in San Juan, i would go back there in a heartbeat, have fun!

Thanks guys. I've heard that there's a bio-luminescent pool someplace, and that sounds really cool to swim in. I'm planning on staying in San Juan for a couple of nights and then heading out to someplace quiet. I don't know if there main places to stay are in the east, west or south part of the island, so any recommendations are helpful.

I saw there is a gay B&B in the very eastern part of the island. Is that a nice area?

You can check Cabo Rojo, nice quiet area.Near by, Bahia Salinas beach resort,It is not far away from Boqueron a town where you can find some gay activity. Also near Bahia Salinas beach resort , there is an amazing beach called playa sucia, (nothing related to the name).

I spent some time in January with a gay friend and we did not have a good time, we felt gauged for every dollar so be careful, both of us are Latin and speak fluent Spanish. So if you can try to learn some crash course in Boriquanics, because we even a hard time understanding them in our native language. So we feel the island is NOT the Enchanted Island, but the Disenchanted Island. Also, the most crazy driving that I have ever seen, even worse than other Latin and Central American countries.

Also, ensure you do not get a mid-night flight into San Juan Airport, the taxis are a rip-off, they will charge you a RIP of rate for picking you at the airport for your flight being at midnight (WTF!) also they will charge you for every bag that you carry, and then if you have to go through a BRIDGE, which is not even a bridge is another $2.00. So just head up, is best to limit your time in the island and hope on another flight to other islands in the Caribbean you will have a better time.

The only part we enjoyed was the historic San Juan and the forts. Other than that we were so happy to leave. Other friends that visited the island have commented the same.

We stayed at the Hilton Condado in San Juan. We took the bus into Old San Juan for like 75 cents. Walking distance to a beach and a quick taxi ride to the club.
